You know, I might give that a try too.

> I think that is where ccp is making large mistakes. Unless you’re an older player that got the benefits of a much better in-game economy, this game is cost prohibitive. I wish I had been playing even 5 years ago. I hear people brag about their wealth in-game all the time, but I bet you they couldn’t do that now if they started over completely and didn’t take stuff from their main accounts.

Okay, here’s the deal. First, wealth might offer various advantages, but it isn’t necessary in order to get kills or have fun. In fact, many people consider the time spent generating wealth to be a waste of time. Wealth is not sufficient nor necessary, and that time could have been spent doing something you enjoy more.

Second, the age of abundance did make it easier for the masses to make money. However, many of those opportunities still exist today, and some things have even gotten better.

Third, abundance didn’t make it possible to make lots of money -it made it easy for “normies” to make lots of money. You didn’t have to use your brain. You just needed to follow directions and grind a lot. Smart players, on the other hand, can figure out how to profit from all sorts of circumstances, and have discovered the opportunity in change. For example, before scarcity, I would shoot for about 1.5-2k isk per LP. Then scarcity and capital changes sent demand for capital mods bought with LP plummiting, which brought down how much I could make with concord LP… well, using the strats that I was using at the time. So, I looked for new strats, and ended up reaching LP conversion rates of up to 10,000 isk per LP (my average was probably closer to 5,000 isk/LP).

**Some people lamented what was happening to concord LP values, and some people straight up bitched about it, meanwhile I was making more money from it than I ever had before… in the middle of scarcity… because I used my brain instead of sitting around complaining. In fact, I even used scarcity itself to my advantage in order to make money. See lots of people were hurting for isk during that time, and willing to sell assets for less than their worth. So, I one of the things I did during scarcity was buy up undervalued assets from people hard up for cash.**

Yes, the age of abundance made it easy for the filthy casuals to make money. But, anyone with half a brain and a willingness to chase strats and opportunities can generate wealth at any time. Moreover, CCP is constantly offering players new opportunities to benefit. And that’s because change itself is opportunity. Nerfs, buffs, sidegrades -doesn’t matter. **It is the fact that something is changing that provides the opportunity.**

If you don’t know how to benefit from a change, try to look to what other players are doing. You might be able to replicate their success this go round, but if not, it can still help give you ideas for how you might be able to benefit from similar changes in the future.

Trillionaires existing long before the age of abundance, and new trillionaires will continue be minted long after it’s become something that only a fraction of the active player base lived through. If you want to be wealthy, the only thing standing in your way is your brains, determination, and desire.

Speaking of which, if I had to do it all over again, not only could I do it again, but I could do it much, much, much faster. But here’s the thing -I wouldn’t. I don’t really think it was worth it. Honestly, the thing I like most about getting wealthy during scarcity, was being able to throw it in the faces of bittervets complaining about scarcity.

> It is a good thing when people realise that ‘free ISK’ in Eve are not free at all. An Omega subscription entitles a person to a faster skills queue and the use of T2 ships. It does **not** automatically entitle them to X amount of ‘free ISK’ from ore or gas, etc.

This, right here.

I’m Omega, and dirt poor. Why?

Because I only grind isk (by stealing other peoples wrecks and ninja looting) for a few weeks to build up my bank account which I promptly turn around to burn in solo frigate pvp.

What’s the point in hoarding trillions of isk when all it does is sit and collect dust.

Isk = fun fuel in EvE and fuel has to be burned to be useful.

> In highsec, how can you possibly stop ganking? While there is no real counterplay to it, there is also no real answer to it. Watching local seems to be the only real defense, and has worked to great success.

Monitoring local is vital, but there are more interesting counterplays:-

- You could switch your mining barge to the Brutix that you have stored in the Orca’s ship bay. They soon lose interest in non-consensual PvP (don’t they **Aiko**?).
- Use a miner or mission runner as bait or field your own tanky bait. Then decloak your arty Loki and insta-jib a significant portion of their DPS off the field as they land. You don’t have to kill **all** the gankers - just enough to reduce their DPS to a survivable amount and give them a bad day.
- Shoot their looter as it turns suspect and deny them the loot drop. They will have a stack of Catalysts ready to go but how many replacement scout/loot ships do they keep close by? That can delay the next gank for a while.
- Loot the ganker wrecks and salvage the miner wreck (typically 10 - 15M ISK for an exhumer wreck). Around 40% of the gank cost can be recouped from the ganker wrecks.

_Keeping the loot drop below the cost to gank_ isn’t really an effective defense strategy when some gankers will use a 115M ISK battlecruiser to kill a 60M ISK barge. Some simply are not ganking for profit - it’s more about the lulz or delivering a message.

I am not AG btw (and have my own gank fleet). I just like ■■■■■■■ with them to keep things interesting for all concerned.

The Safety. wrecks they saw outside a station were most likely corvette wrecks. Post-gank, they will warp their pods to a station and board corvettes, then undock to pull CONCORD away from the belt they just hit to keep it clear for their next gank.

Just now went to Zkill and reviewed the most recent five Hulks ganked in hi-sec today. Each one was fitted poorly. None had a Damage Control mod in the lows or a full complement of extenders/hardeners in the mids. They were awful. This holds true, generally speaking, when looking at any group of ganked hi-sec mining ships. In WH’s with a 38M ISK Procurer hull, I use bear bones fits, not with hi-sec Exhumers.

If I do, and Auntie Aiko makes a visit, she’ll make me a zKillboard star of the day…

The point for the “newbro” is … learn not to be Auntie Aiko’s patsy.

At this point in time the mining barges and Exhumers are now at a point where if they fit for yield they are easy to gank, if they are fit for tank they are difficult to gank. Mining barges and Exhumers are in a good spot.

> No true Scotsman fallacy. You’re essentially saying that what we do isn’t “real PvP.”

is it? player versus player would mean that both parties are involved in the competition. suicide ganking doesn’t fit that criteria since only one side is participating in the combat.

> [@Shipwreck\_Jones](#):
>
> The hell it does. It is trivially easy to reduce the chances of being ganked to damn near zero.

you’re taking that out of contect. the seige green update killed smaller corps being able to have structures. this is why you see fewer and fewer owned by anyone other than mega alliances.

> [@Shipwreck\_Jones](#):
>
> There is an absolute crap ton of things that you can do before the gank, and even stuff that you can do during the gank

other than hiding, no there isnt. I love the suggestion that a damage control unit will somehow save you. There isnt a high enough defense possible to stop ganking. You can see fully tanked orcas dying to suicide gankers every day on the zkill website. The only possible counter play is to have a fleet of combat ships at the ready to kill anyone attacking you. That isn’t viable though, because who wants to sit around waiting for that when it could take hours to even become a chance?

> [@Shipwreck\_Jones](#):
>
> If someone quits because they got ganked, then that probably means that Eve wasn’t the right game for them, and that they should give me their stuff before they leave.

they already lost their stuff, so what is there to give?

> [@Shipwreck\_Jones](#):
>
> This is still a skill based game. SP, wallet sizes, alts, and friends do offer advantages, but at the end of the day, none of those things are sufficient nor necessary to get kills or have fun.

it takes isk to get into the ships. the game rewards don’t match the in-game economy. I don’t know, but do people pay for subscriptions to try a game out that has a free trial? Even if they do, it takes weeks to learn base stats and time to gain isk. The only option to counter that is to buy plex or skill points. I’m not saying it’s a terrible idea to wait weeks or months to have the basic skills to fly a ship, i’m saying that the current generation of gamers doesn’t have the time or patience for that. That is why most games have catch up mechanics after a while that you don’t have to pay extra money for. eve is one of the very few games I know about that does not have a way to catch up without spending a lot of money.

> [@Shipwreck\_Jones](#):
>
> And now you’ve gone full on conspiracy theory. Meh. I kind of want to address this, but that requires a wall of text in and of itself. So, maybe later.

That’s a joke, but also probably not. From my perspective it does not make sense to make the changes that are documented. making industry more difficult made prices go up. as prices continue to go up, ccp is also offering packages, especially to newer players to buy ships directly from them. It’s not a wild leap of imagination to consider that there is a possibility that they will at some point make most things available to buy directly from them. There are quite a few posts about these packages on these forums and on reddit.

> [@Shipwreck\_Jones](#):
>
> I just want to reiterate that you cannot make a game that appeals to everyone

I agree with you on that, but you must admit that the smaller and smaller logged in numbers is cause for concern. it takes a base amount of money to keep a company alive. raising prices while also making things harder to get in-game does little to make the population and profits increase. I would not be surprised at all if ccp has to fold soon if they keep losing players. At some point you have to make a choice. Do you want to appeal to an ever dwindling population or do you want to appeal to a broader range in order to stay alive?

Youd be surprised if you think thats the case.

EvE mechanics are a game of percentages. The more security you take, the higher the percentage chance of not dying is.

Combat is not defined as two equal combatants. If you fight a fire, is the fire trying to fight you back?

pvp is two combatants. fire fighters arent engaging in pvp, but to answer your question yes. fire does fight back by spreading as much as it can.

d-scan doesnt matter when they are ontop of you within a second or three of entering system. I mean, cool. you know whats going to kill you a split second before they got you. The thing my friends have done is set alts in neighboring systems to keep an eye out for them. So basically you’re almost arguing for more alts just to stand a chance at blue balling them.

How would they be on you that fast? You can know what they are within a second of them decloaking from gate, and be in warp fast than it takes them to get to you, no matter where you are.

that implies that miners and haulers are capable of fighting back to any degree. I’ve been told its possible to make a procurer a fighting ship but i have yet to ever see it. but even then, they arent miners at that point.
It’s not a competition. it’s a slaughter. that is whay it is called ganking and not a fight.

because they go to the same systems all the time. they know what they are doing and where to go. plus they have unaffiliated alts to scout. cloak exists even in highsec. Also, as I have already said in a previous post, with my skills as a newer player my fastest mining ship takes over 6 seconds to get into warp. Without the early warning people with multiple accounts give, i am a sitting duck.
