It’s pretty clear they intend to reintroduce them in the future.
And don’t forget, this is CCPs pattern. They roll out a big batch of stuff that enrages the community then the take the bit that generated the most outrage back and say “we hear you”. Then later they roll that back out with a bunch of other stuff where something else is the most outrageous. Rinse and repeat.
Notice how everyone was annoyed at the ships and them generating magic SP from nowhere, yet the SP is still on sale.
