So it means that those who want to fight and declare the war mutual no longer have a need to destroy the structure and can just ignore it. It’s only a fuel consuming device for the aggressor now.

And what does this mean for those who don’t want to fight and so don’t make the war mutual? Do they now have an extend war declaration to sit out?

No, it doesn’t limit itself to a specific piece of New Eden that only is in Gallente Space or Amarr, or Minmatar, or Caldari. It’s everywhere. It costs fuel to run it’s scanning. It needs to be in space to function. It can only connect with the Concord greater tracking system in 0.5 or higher security.

Still gives you intel if you choose to get it.

7 days the war will continue after one group decides to “un-mutual” the war. They’re still war targets for the enemy they have. Enemy decides if they wish to continue the war or not and makes such an action (not an ISK depost, an action) by deploying the device.

Or, and I’m just throwing this out there… CCP could fix locator agents to return an ‘out of my range’ result to any player not online and the same problem is resolved without having to implement new structures and whatnot. Players who are hunting still have to put forth a significant amount of effort to find their targets, without having at the same time spend hours with dozens of flying monkeys at typewriters just trying to find a single person in space.

Can you explain this in more detail? How does this work with the fuel?

The device would function greater and lesser than the locator agents. It knows there is a pilot out in (system X) that is in the corporation you are at war with. It will not tell you it’s Joe Dirtfarmer or “Did I just warp into a gatecamp?” because that’s not what it does. It tells you where the targets are.

I dunno.
I know you like it, but to me it seems like an overly complex solution to a fairly simple problem.
The more complex the solution to the problem, the more things that can go wrong with it’s implementation.
KIS. Keep It Simple.
If you get fancy, CCP is likely to break something else on accident when trying to make it happen.

> Can you explain this in more detail? How does this work with the fuel?

Sure. Fuel keeps the devices intel connection ports to Concord’s network running for their amusement. They could give you it for free but it’s more entertaining to watch live fights and that requires more power than their network provides space for. Concord ships aren’t always being summoned everywhere so they need their entertainment. Thus you are keeping the livestream for their private pay per view in corp stations only entertainment network functioning. For this entertainment they’re going to not jump in and ruin the battle. They love fights. Show up to so many that didn’t give them a livestream to show how much they HATE not being included and then you have to deal with angry Concord personel who haven’t had their fight fix. And now they’re missing out on what could be happening on the livestream because of you. Know what… Screw it… I’ll just blow up your ship for not giving us a stream. Now I get to wait around here because protocol… Damnit… Why do I get the lousy job and not get to sit back in the… Times up? BACK TO THE ENTERTAINMENT SCREENS HURRY!

Deploying the device will give you (wait… first we need to connect it in… red tape and all… 24 hour wait) a full week where Concord agrees not to step in and blow your ships up so long as you livestream the fights to them. The device connects cameras to your fleet that only Concord can see and connect to and then refreshes the batteries whenever you’re not in combat. Once the third point bounce is established we get our entertainment and you get to fight without us showing up and smashing your ship. Any questions?

Oh ■■■■… yea… sorry… forgot to mention that the device will help us get our entertainment fix better. Nothing better than directing your ships to point it’s guns at people am I right?

Yes.

Is this actually how you want this to work, with cameras and stuff, or is this just some fantasy? How should I read this?

There’s not much to really tell about “deploy device, shove fuel into it, watch it consume fuel at a steady rate over a week and it gives you notice of when the enemy corp has a target and where” to it.

Not if the cost is what you are proposing. It’s like offering a chocolate bar as an incentive to having an amputation.

If you want it to be something that is fought over, then it has to have timers which indicates a citadel like structure.

One could, but it would be irrelevant.

Alright.

Can I say that the nature of this change is merely cosmetic, since you say you want to swap the ISKs for an object in space?

Apart from the intel gathering part of course.

We’re not having an amputation. I’m just offering you chocolate for the butterscotch. Both candy. One for the other. You gain intel for as long as you keep the device up. You can choose to defend it or ignore it. Keep it in space and it’ll gather intel. Forget to fuel it and it’ll blow up. Entirely your choice to continue war by logistics rather than isk.

No, that is making it BIGGER than it needs to be and considerably more expensive.

90% cosmetic. 5% risk, 5% benefit. The benefit already existed in the game and can be returned with less specific tracking than the locator agents. You are just tracking where the target corp is after all. Not who. That’s your problem to deal with when you show up. Usually with the sound of gunfire. Sometimes missiles instead.

Then you are deluded I’m afraid. No timers means that all you are doing is introducing a massive amount of red tape to a system that isn’t really broken. You’re not going to encourage people to fight like this no matter what you believe.

As I’ve said before in this thread which you have very obviously chosen not to read the timers are applied once at start of the war and once a week they get refreshed so long as you have a device deployed in that window.

And what you’re not listening to is the structures need controllable shield/armour/structure/reinforcement timers otherwise nobody is going to bother fighting over them. Without the fight schedules, the whole thing gets unbalanced

I’m sure we can add them in where a fight at one of these devices initiates with shields being destroyed, a 24 hour window and then armor destroyed, and another window which opens in favor of the attacker prefered times so they can choose to defend or attack at their leisure if that is a concern you have. I do not see making it have millions of ehp though. It’s not something you can dock anything in.

Alright.

Here is what CCP will do with your suggestion. If they choose to take it will they only use the intel gathering idea. The tie to war declaration timers will get stripped from it, because it is already in the game. It’s working, it has been tested, and it’s fully functioning and a long-standing part of their code base. Any change, no matter how insignificant or cosmetic will not make them change the current code, and because it would only be insignificant and cosmetic as well as require unnecessary man-hours and cost for them. It might even be possible that the dev who implemented it no longer works at CCP or now sits in management, and some other dev would have to get into that part of the code before trying to change it. In short, it’s not going to be worth for CCP to touch it.

For the players will the idea of having to deploy an object in order to declare war only look like a complication, when they already have an existing mechanic for it. Games hardly ever get changed to become more complicated, but only to make it easier for the players. Only when something entirely new is being introduced can one make them complicated. Once it is in will most players not accept a change that’s going to make their game more complicated.

I hope you don’t take this as a criticism of your idea. I’m merely telling you this so you can think about what I write, and if you find anything true about it, use it to adjust your expectations regarding how the game maker will see it.

So in essence, I believe what remains of your idea will be the intel gathering device.
