On that note, FC ought to return Ancestries to the chargen process. If new players are asked to align more closely with the Yulai signatories, their identities and cultures, then the devs need to put back some of the interesting color that was inexplicably removed.

Also, removing bloodline NPC corp enrollment was a ■■■■■■■ mistake.

I mean the math is pretty straight forward, for example the CoW expansion would no doubt lead a disproportionate number of people to join a “war” school, meaning those sitting in the trade school corps are going to have less chance to interact with and learn from those other players, even more so when said schools were spread around multiple systems in different locations

There isn’t anything to “buy” its just basic numbers, yes they are all blessed with the great joys of rookie help, but thats way too crowded most of the time and it doesn’t really work for just being social as its there as a Q&A channel

Less schools means more concentrations of players in a social setting and CCP, and the playerbase know that the social element is what is key to keeping players invested in EVE long term

Most other MMO’s have less starting locations than EVE does by a fair margin, i think WoW is probably one of the few that might have more variations, but they also have a significantly higher number of players to the point that the dilution is less of an issue, in EVE you’re more likely to start alongside 20 other people, in WoW you could be starting alongside 100 even with higher numbers of starting locations, EVE is a much smaller game so the same rules don’t apply

Except the starting area your choice leads to generally means nothing to new players who don’t know what any of that means, sure an experienced player knows that starting in caldari space near jita is going to make their lives easier

New players don’t know what any of those choices actually mean, and in that regard you limit how much of a problem that becomes, exordium means no matter which race you pick you’re in the same space, and no matter what school you end up in you’ll be around a greater number of players than if you’re making choices randomly

And its not about some quest to drain flavour from the game, its about making the start of the game more meaningful for new players, you can just completely ignore the starting corp like 99% of players already do, the overwhelming majority doesn’t care that you started in SATI vs the republic military school because they know ultimately that choice means literally nothing, you’re the ones seemingly making it out to be a bigger deal than it really is, you can still RP without worrying about that first corp in the chain as its the rest of your employment history people are actually going to look at

And CCP isn’t going to correct it, but you already know that

Bloodlines ended up being a massive headache as they actually changed stat distribution, its why there was a disproportionate number of Achura caldari when RMR came out, because everyone was chasing the free minmax

I understand, but I was referring to Ancestry, e.g. Stargazer et al for Achura, Drifter et al for Vherokior, Jing-Ko et al for Jin Mei, Zealot et al for Khanid. When I started in 2009, it was already stated to have no effect on character attributes, but it did contain lore information.

If you were starting the game together with a friend, then knowing starter corps went to different areas would’ve meant you knew to pick the same one. Exordium solved that issue too, but players being diluted across different starter corp channels isn’t solved by randomly assigning us instead of letting us choose.

Now that you mention it though, what’s the point of the first part of char creation that just bombards new players with info about empire beliefs, ships, and weapon types? They even tell us it doesn’t matter since we can skill into everything.

Our empire and race should be randomly picked for us.

The only way to choose your corp is to make another character to see which corp is getting new characters. If it’s not the one you want you gotta try again later. If the corp is the one you want you then make your real toon and hope it’s still set to the corp you want when you finalize. If you have multiple omega accounts you can make another throwaway toon to check if new characters are still going to the corp you want. Then hit create only when you confirm it’s still putting people into the corp you want.

Made 3 gallente and 3 Amarr. All Gallente got CAS and all Amarr got Hedion. Earlier they were different corps and always the same for any given empire at any given point in time.

This is very stupid. Permanent assignments being determined by temporary conditions. So it’s so busy in the Caille school’s system so you force characters into CAS. The next day more CAS log in at the same time and the system is “crowded” according to CCP’s metrics. So they are still playing in a “crowded” system. It just wasn’t “crowded” at the time they made the character. How has this helped anyone in any way? The only crowded system in EVE is Jita anyway.

I just discovered this when I made an alt and wondered why I couldn’t choose my corp. This is one of the dumbest changes to the game I’ve ever seen. I like to choose my corps for social and RP reasons. Now I spend time making a character and it’s just a dice roll if I get the corp I want? And if I don’t I have to delete, wait 10 hours, make my character all over again and hope the dice rolls in my favour? Absolute joke.

Or, just create your own corp and RP from there, you can just ignore the starter corp you know, the same way you ignore that paper round you did as a kid on your CV 😛

Well you’re not going to get it changed most likely, RP’ers are a minority in EVE and there are not really enough new players coming in to the game to make having too many starter corps even worthwhile from a gameplay perspective

I’ve offered you the solution you have available

Wouldn’t it actually make more sense to have the whole Corp joining a thing as you progress from Exordian Space? NPC Corp is rips off players 15% in Tax then you have Exordian Tax so I am not sure what is the point other than teaching new players that you are content.

They should spend some money on making a better entry point into the game that is continuous, actual mission guides and expectations then delivers them to join Player Corporations. So gateways to Faction Warfare, High Sec Groups, Pirates, Null Sec etc.

Issue is your character always exists within a corp, unlike traditional games there is no player state that exists outside of that like you would would with a guild in say WoW or a free company in FF14

Even biomassed characters have to exist within a corp, in this case Doomheim
