It could simply be a server side implementation of the law change China made in 2021 to restrict game time for minors. ---

It doesn’t seem to have made any difference to TQ player numbers, on EVE Offline Maybe its just the play time limit per day for Chinese players. On another note, im surprised they allow ANY connections to TQ from China. Is that not why Serenity exists, so that certain elements present on TQ like drugs can be ommited? ---

Having done a tiny little bit of business in China, I find all of this (and especially the responses) kind of funny. I certainly wouldn’t imply that all Chinese business (or other official) practices are on the up-and-up. That said, in general they’re shrewd and capable businessmen. And Blizzard is well known for gouging for dollars. They seem to think their product is pure gold and everybody will pay whatever it takes to play. (Like, perhaps, some other businesses we know.) Anyways, nothing new here. They announced the problems months ago, and now Blizzard has run into some delays and asked NetEase to be their b1tch for another 6 months while they search for their next partner to scre… screen carefully. (That’s what the “donkey/divorce” quote is about, by the way.) There’s been plenty of semi-informed speculation that the actual reason is Blizzard’s next set of contract terms is weighted very heavily in their financial favor, while forcing NetEase to continue to develop new products for them. As for the game release, not sure what part of “Asia copies your successful products and makes them better/cheaper and sells them back to you” seems new or revelatory to you. It’s been happening for well over 40 years now, after all. So, “how they _actually_ tend to do business there” appears to be, they’ll tell someone trying to screw them over to bugger off, and aren’t afraid to follow through on it. Is that a problem for you? Not sure how serious your comment is… You should know that there a brand of humor where the posited statement is so over the top as to be self-referential. Perhaps you are doing the same but it’s not apparent to me. ---
