It is difficult to punish “pirates” in HS, cause they are not really “pirates” anymore…that game style died long ago.

Safety has Orca mining groups.
Wrecking, Machine, Blackflag share HS moons and ISK from POCO taxes…
They all have their own internal gank groups or should i say Fast Response Security teams.

Even my smaller organization, a guy entered an ice belt multiboxing several retrievers, he got bumped, asked why, it was suggested we get our gank alts…someone different suggest making him an asset rather than a targert…the guys response was he doesnt play with people that play the kinda of game we do…like what does that mean…it is EvE.

an organization living somehwhere, that uses and collects the local resources, AND backs up their claim with firepower and actions by any means…security of regions doesnt matter at that point…and it happens everywhere. Some get it, many newer players are not, and there is a group out there i feel actively lobbying in attempts to destroy EvE instead of moving to a different game.

“Piracy” in HS doesnt need anymore punishment, players need to learn how to EvE, or at the very least join some group, any group willing to teach them how to EvE.

> CCP needs to focus on new players who can populate as many High Sec systems as possible without the fear of being ganked at all. Instead of a few players, CODE in general, saying look at all I have destroyed that keeps people away, CCP needs to focus on the hundreds or thousands of new players saying ‘look at me and what I have done to bring more players to the game.’

This is simply not true. It’s a perspective I also initially had…but I soon realised it was absurd. Highsec would be _utterly boring_ without any threats, and that would actually put off more noobs than ganking ever could. Ganking is absolutely essential to Eve…and CCP have even said so.

Eve is not for carebears…it is not even for people who stick around ‘despite’ the constant threat. It is for people who stick around _because_ of the threat and who rise to the challenge.

Concord mechanics need an overhaul, I agree completely. I like high sec ganking for huge value targets that require coordination and planning–like freighters. But, I agree with CCP when they say they’re going to try to limit griefing alpha-bros who lose smaller mining ships to badbois who fit crap destroyers to take someone out without loot and/or purpose other than for lawls.

Having said that–will CCP actually do anything about it? I doubt it.

CCP have to be careful when ‘fixing’ one playstyle not to wreck another. For example all manner of smaller ships ( even mining ships ) can themselves be used for perfectly legitimate ganker scouting and other activities…which also makes them legitimate targets. And not everyone with a toon that says 21 days _is_ actually a noob.

It _will_ happen to each player in some way. CCP does something that inconveniences their “daily routine”. Folks adapt or get burnt out. This is the source of a significant trove of “HTFU”-forum-slinging.

Furthermore if it provides enough benefit people will biomass and create a new character every few weeks just to have a(n) “(semi-)invulnerable” “rookie” character to scout with and/or whatever other use they can find for such.

This is EVE so the first thing people will figure out how to exploit a newly introduced change or feature and usually in ways the devs never would have thought of let alone thought would be remotely possible in the first place.

Saying this considering that probably it would not affect my own playstyles or even could outright use it for my advantage. Seems difficult (CCP will be too lazy to) or outright impossible to balance.

That was basically my point. Any protection for noobs is liable to be seized on by those who are not new.

I’ve seen people say that ‘once people leave the starter system’ they are fair game. But in fact a noob leaves their home system pretty much straight away…with agent missions, or even just for mining. Also, there really isn’t anything that specifically _tells_ you a system like Trossere ( for example ) is primarily full of noobs doing training missions. I’ve never seen anything that specifically tells you what noob starter systems actually are.

I don’t think protection for noobs is the way forward. Harsher penalties for gankers should be where they aim instead. IF you choose to gank in high sec, cool–but you’re sec penalty should be 4x what is currently. People should have to pick targets wisely.

CCP disagrees. Now they are differentiating between ganking and griefing. This isn’t conjecture–this is a stated fact. Changes are both coming and long overdue.

Not really bub.

Yes, ganking isn’t griefing LOL.

I love how you try to keep your hope alive 😃

My point stands. Ganking is incredibly easy to avoid.

The only people who get ganked are the stupid ones. Tis true.

No…that is not going to affect the large number of gankers who are already at status -10 and can’t go any lower. In fact it would ironically affect proactive antigankers more. And it would affect those such as myself who may attack the odd ship in highsec…for example when I’m after someone with a bounty on them.

Without having CCP’s “definition” of what constitutes griefing its going to be impossible to predict what changes (if any) will implemented in game.

As has been pointed out ganking is a legitimate game play. So simply ganking a player or ganking a newbie is not an act of griefing.

Following that player around preventing them from doing anything and abusing them in the in game chat is griefing. And I don’t see how mechanics fix that since thats what the reporting functions and GM’s are for.

The mining changes have already made it more difficult for solo gankers and small ganker groups to find targets. More consequences just make it less viable. And thats bad for all of us long term.

But they always did, didn’t they? If my memory does not fail me, there’s always been a policy about “griefing” and killing new players in starter systems, etc. So it’s not a “now” thing.

Yours is just wishful thinking.

We do have it. I’ve seen the section of fanfest where it is dealt with. But it is confusing.

My confusion rests on the definition of ‘new players’ and of ‘new player ships’. Now the first may _seem_ straightforward…anyone under 30 days or so. But, we have no way of knowing if a person is _genuinely_ new.

CCP define certain systems as starter systems ( for example Bourynes ) where noobs are safe…but Bourynes is also on the main ganker route from Dodixie down to Amarr and Minmatar space. What is to stop ganker scouts just endlessly recycling ‘newbie’ accounts ?

And it’s not just ‘newbie starter systems’. CCP’s section on rookie griefing mentions about 35 systems, that includes starter systems, agent systems, and SOE and other arc systems. A list one has to somehow memorize in case one accidentally zaps a noob. I know from my own experience that one often simply does not have time to look up a person’s bio and age…Eve is often about split second decisions.

Then there’s CCPs mention of ‘new player ships’…and specifically such ships with zero cargo. What is a ‘new player ship’ ? And does this mention of cargo mean that one _only_ qualifies as a ganker if one has a cargo scanner ?

All rather confusing, especially for someone like myself who may decide to gank smaller ships now and then.
