awesome. another way to ■■■■ on and discourage not-rich solo players.
I realize eve is a sandbox, but do you really have to make it _that_ much like rl?

This is exactly what I do with my accounts and skill farming is the only reason they stay Omega.

I was very excited when citadels were introduced and extremely disappointed with this past years updates. Maybe CCP will introduce another exciting patch in the future, who knows?

Meanwhile, it takes about 20 minutes every 2 months to log in my accounts and do my farming and make isk.

I am currently waiting for this Trig crap to get over before possibly committing any real time to the game again. CCP seems determined to stuff it down our throats though. ☹

And you are not alone…

This is why i’m saying that those shiny little ‘monthly numbers’ are just a fraud…they just take the highest number of a day and calculate a 30 day ‘average’ with it instead of calculating an average of the DAY and use THAT number for the 30 day calculation(which would result in a significant LOWER number of ‘players’)…

Certainly this is beside the fact that those number do not show WHAT the players are actually DOING…

Do they actively play(should count to the daily number) or just managing their skill(should not, because they are not ‘playing the game’)?

For this reason alone the monthly update is simply wrong on purpose…

Correct. But neither do the historical numbers showing higher player counts in the past. You claim that EVE’s player numbers have declined because CCP won’t pander to people like you, but how do you know that the numbers in 2010 weren’t inflated by lots of people logging in to check skills? In fact, perhaps this entire decline is the result of the unlimited skill queue making it no longer necessary to log in immediately to switch skills and has nothing to do with PvE changes.

I did not said it’a my fault. It was a reply on “instanced content” reference. Some people need a known time limit on their activities. Not because they do not like it the other way around, but because it’s what they have access to right now.
3-5 years later, I would gladly spend an entire evening on it, together with my son, who shows certain interest already, but unable to project strategic view of EVE to actual interactions and challenges right now.

Also, you can still be followed into the instance, just like in any deadspace one.

Beyond the fact you are wrong as CCP aren’t responsible for EVE offline making wild claims like this requires evidence.

That’s understandable, but instanced content is still not the way to approach the issue. CCP could’ve created content that can be completed in little “chunks” without making it instanced.

In Pearl Abyss last quarterly financial statement it showed CCP doing very, very well, therefore there is increased pressure from the new owners to keep up that financial progress. This totally useless addition is one way to do so. Think about it, even the cheapest structure has essentially had its priced double or more by this patch i.e.: Raitaru current price 485M isk, Quantum core for it is 800M isk. Athanor current price 595m isk, Quantum core for it is 700M isk. CCP knows that many, many smaller organizations that don’t have vast isk reserves like PL, NC., Test, Goons… will have to pull out the credit card and purchase plex to be in accordance with the new policy. That in return, makes them more money with which to please the new owners. Its amazing the changes that have occurred in the past 18 months or so.

It’s more amazing that you think PA has anything to do with it, compared to a company that once [tried to sell an in-game monocle](https://www.engadget.com/2011-10-05-ccp-games-ceo-issues-letter-of-apology-to-eve-online-players.html) for $70 real-world American. “[Greed is Good](https://eve-files.com/media/corp/poeticstanziel/vol-1-greed-is-good.pdf)”, after all… and the same guy’s still at the wheel.

- What CCP has said is congrats on building your 480mill Raitaru, now you have to pay a further 800 mill to make all the services work and BTW it will act as a huge bounty and put a big fat-ass target on your back.

- What CCP didn’t say was congrats you have built your 100 bill Titan, now pay a NPC corp 130 Billion more because from now on you have to plug this indestructible module to let you fly it with all modules online.

In other words, CCP realized that allowing players to buy a 100-kilometer-wide space house, which magically lets them bypass all normal high-sec production fees and taxes, _for slightly more than the price of a T2-fitted Hulk_, **was a rather ill-conceived idea**. Got it.

This is factually incorrect. The manufacturer pays the System Cost Index regardless. The most that can be bypassed is an additional npc tax that is 10% of the System Cost Index. The owner of the structure bypasses 1/11th of the total cost.

If only CCP had said this was the reason for Quantum modules… and not as the counter to the structure spam being used as a tactic in null-sec warfare, this was so ill-conceived that it doesn’t really affect the null structure spam yet still manages to discourage newer industrial hi-sec players from advancing in the game.

My bad, I was thinking about it from a market perspective.

Sounds like the cost is line with the utility, then? Even the new combined cost is quite affordable, and will now force players to defend their structures instead of throwing them away like disposable paper plates when they get attacked.

CCP’s intent aside, structure cost has nothing to do with preventing newer industrial players from advancing. Citadel ownership isn’t intended for week-old players; it’s a mechanic that skews toward mid-to-late-term gameplay. New players are able to use NPC stations to produce _just fine_ (in fact, according to the post above, at barely an increase in cost), without committing to structure ownership.

You mean like the point in an industrialists career when they are unsure of moving to lo/null sec but want to try to try something new… like managing their own structure for production.

You mean that mid-to-late-term gameplay ?

The one that has just been penalized with a sizable price hike that comes with a huge buy your own target to stick on your back?

If a person has been playing for a year or two, sure.

In EVE, you have to defend your assets from attack. That’s the default state of things. The way citadels have existed up this point made them practically immune to attack, except when attacked out of principle. Going through three attack phases, and not getting some sort of payout, means that citadels are only dying in fringe situations. With QCs, killing citadels won’t be competitive with other activities money-wise, but at least there will be some kind of incentive for pushing structures in wars, instead of ignoring them completely. Fielding a gunner and one or two ships (even simple Blackbirds would do) will create enough of a deterrent for attacking structures with a profit motive, since the amount of ships you’d have to bring to counter that would reduce individual payouts to a level of insignificance. And if the structure is completely undefended, well, then that’s the owner’s fault.

At these QC prices, I just don’t see any existential danger to structures in high-sec. There’s room for balance, however. For example, I don’t see why they made the Astrahus core the least expensive one, since an Astrahus is more difficult to kill than an Athanor or a Raitaru.

@Arrendis As part of becoming a wholly owned subsidiary his personal stake in the company was bought out, along with all the rest of the investors. He may still be at the helm, but I wonder (perhaps you have more knowledge on this topic than I do, as you are in much higher circles of eve than I am) if he has anywhere near the same degree if plenipotentiary power that he used to wield. I know that there were certain revenue goals set for them during sales process, and I realize the real world pressure that is exerted, very quickly when a subsidiary needs to meet revenue goals. On my main, I’ve been playing since 2005, so yes I can believe a lot of ludicrous decisions that they make. However, the pace of change, many of them not well thought out has decidedly increased over the past 18-24 months in my humble opinion. Again, I realize you may possess knowledge that I don’t have, this is just what I see at my level.
