Are we judging fishes by their ability to climb trees? How do we judge who is intelligent? Forrest Gump was known for his lack of intelligence. But he almost always made the right choices in the movie. Does that still make him stupid?

This thread is titled:
“Question about UFOs and ETs”

The CONTEXT is ETs arriving here in THEIR spaceraft, not HUMAN spacecraft.

Please answer honestly: Are you just dead set on being an asshole to me or do you REALLY think that ETs would fly here in a human built SpaceX rocket?

I really would like an honest answer.

The REASON I said that there isn’t an element on EARTH that could be used to build such a craft is because I don’t know what elements are available on ANOTHER planet do I?

I really overestimated the intelligence here if you all think ETs arrive on Earth by flying human rockets.

This could become true some day, just like space travel was more than a century ago:
**Miguel Alcubierre Moya** (born March 28, 1964) is a Mexican [theoretical physicist](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theoretical_physicist "Theoretical physicist").[[4]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miguel_Alcubierre#cite_note-Cramer_1997-4) Alcubierre is known for the proposed [Alcubierre drive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_drive "Alcubierre drive"), a speculative [warp drive](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warp_drive "Warp drive") by which a spacecraft could achieve faster-than-light travel.

Also, according to NatGEO there’s quantum teleportation technology for quite some time now, but at an atomic scale. :

So UFOs having a jump drive like in EVE’s capital ships is not far fetched.

And are you implying that all theoretical physics papers that go on and on for dozens of pages are just “gibbering” and there’s not even ways to prove things on paper, not even such a thing as “mathematically proven”?

Gravitational waves were a theory more than a 100 years ago. Yet got proven.

I think neither.

I also think you’re again drawing conclusions based on no evidence, because nowhere in this thread did I say or even suggested that ETs came here in human-made rockets, nor is that relevant context for your earlier claim I quoted.

Now I’m glad you finally posted the context to that earlier claim this time, because without it it made little sense:

> The REASON I said that there isn’t an element on EARTH that could be used to build such a craft is because I don’t know what elements are available on ANOTHER planet do I?

What you forget here is that new materials can be invented as mixture of existing elements like steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, or using structures of elements like in carbon fibre.

I’m not aware of vehicles being built directly out of ‘elements’. Often no direct elements are involved, but are elements used to make materials that they’re built from and these materials keep improving.

An advanced alien civilization may be using the same elements we do, but they can have access to far superior materials.

I never said you did. Not once.

You said there was no context in my post.

I quoted it. You wrote it. You said my post was without context. That is what you said. You said no context.

The context is in the title.

In the context of the title, it should have been clear that I could ONLY have meant an alien built spacecraft capable of traveling through **interstellar space**. There should have been no confusion on that.

> [@Gerard\_Amatin](#):
>
> I’m not aware of vehicles being built directly out of ‘elements’. Often no direct elements are involved, but are elements used to make materials that they’re built from and these materials keep improving.

Where do you think materials come from? Steel is just iron and carbon. “They don’t make them out of elements” Yeah they do. That’s exactly what they do. They may mix a few of them, but they do. And guess what- they’re all out of elements to mix into new ways because there is no way for any elements to be mixed that will result in a material capable of taking a hit at the speeds required to travel through the stars.

Even at the speed Voyager I is traveling is unsafe. A pressurized ship traveling at that speed could possibly get a hole in it from a paint chip. It wouldn’t destroy it, but it may require repairs if you didn’t want to lose your breathable air. And that’s if it did not hit a valuable piece of equipment. A small rock or something bigger would be worse. and Voyager would take 75,000 years to reach the nearest star.

At light speed? FTL speed? Moving thousands of times faster than light? A spec of dust could destroy the ship. I’m not making that up. Traveling faster than light makes impact fatal no matter how small the object is. Space isn’t empty. The Voyager probes have sent back data stating that interstellar space is even less empty. One hit is all it would take- one hit on a path between our star and another… light years of distance. You’re going to hit something!

If what you wrote clearly caused confusion to multiple readers, are you sure your message could only be interpreted in a single non-confusing way?

You say there _should_ be no confusion, but I think this is a good moment to reflect and realize that what you wrote was confusing.

I just looked at my original post. Here it is.

>
> There just isnt a material on planet Earth that could be used to manufacture a spaceship capable of withstanding the hazards of spaceflight. That’s in addition to the technology required for shields and FTL travel.

See that last sentence? I include the initialism FTL.

Oh… An **initialism** is a type of abbreviation formed from the first letters of a phrase, where each individual letter is pronounced separately

It stands for Faster Than Light.

No human made spacecraft moves faster than light. So I’m still wondering why you thought I was talking about probes or rockets or the ISS. Why do you need to read minds to know that I did not mean craft built by humans?

Avoid confusion? No.. just admit that you were being an asshole and nothing more. Or you could just move on and bug someone else. I specifically included an element of space travel that eliminated anything built by humans. You, like those other two morons, chose to ignore it. You purposely left that out of every single quote.

It’s more that at one point string theory abandoned the idea of testing reality since strings can’t be tested and just said: doesn’t matter, the maths do math and we keep expanding them.

But maths alone are not reality. Maths that can’t be tested are not science.

And this is why in one hand reality keeps throwing curve balls to Physics ,and on the other hand Physics is like “oh look, shiny maths!”.

As for the principle of authority of “they’re jet pilots!”… flying a jet doesn’t makes you an expert on knowing wtf are you looking at when you don’t know what you’re looking at. Doesn’t makes you an expert in optics, digital imaging, celestial phenomenons, and doesn’t turns what you don’t know what is into a non-human flying machine

There above, I had that discussion with the sphere some guy saw. A tethered balloon can be spherical and won’t move under the wind without visible means of propulsion.

Or the metal cylinder you saw, a mylar balloon can be cylindrical, metallic, and fly with no visible means of propulsion, at unknown distance because of unknown size and thus unknown velocity. Drifting by a wind at a different altitude and direction that what you experience on the surface.

(At one point, one often ridiculed for good reasons ufologist misidentified a stray horse-shaped party balloon for an actual horse trapped in an anti-gravity bubble)

As for aliens and ET… well, we human are hardwired to believe that our experience as toddlers is also real as adults. A superhuman power takes care of us and scares us and rewards us and punishes us.

Probably we wouldn’t believe in gods if we just hatched out of an egg… or our gods would be wildly different.

Now it’s aliens. They’re superpowered to us and will come to punish us or save us from our self-inflicted predicaments.

We just kind of hope “squeeze nipple, get food” was the only thing we needed to go through scary life and even scarier end of life.

Because we hope.

But the universe, you know, doesn’t owes anything. Mom does. Dad does. We human do owe to other human.

Because there’s nofuckinganyone else to care of us.

Or they’re so far and so as much alone and as frightened as us.

And now, here’s something from Ish for you.

Are you sure that that’s what you meant?

As per your own words:

> [@Glenduil](#):
>
> There just isnt a material on planet Earth that could be used to manufacture a spaceship capable of withstanding the hazards of spaceflight.

So, now you’re saying that what you meant in that post was that there is no material on planet Earth that aliens could use to build a spacecraft capable of interstellar travel? Why would the aliens need to build a spacecraft from Earth materials if they traveled here in a spacecraft built with alien materials?
(Elements, materials come from nuclear reactions in the core of the stars, by the way. And they’re pretty ubiquitous throughout the universe, if at different concentrations/proportions).

This is some advanced backtracking. I think you’ve veered seriously off the course here. Is it so difficult to admit you could have been more specific in your post? You’re not infallible, you know, though you’re very defnsive about that thing (not just on this thread). And making mistakes is human, owning up to mistakes is actually a sign of strength, not weakness.

Not to drag this argument out so long, because there seems no end to it, but I wanna respond to this part still:

> [@Glenduil](#):
>
> They’re not hypothetical. Life has been proven to be able to survive in space (microorganisms like the tardigrade) which means that it can travel from planet to planet. We’ve found rocks on Earth that came from Mars.

But that’s not the kind of life forms we are talking about in the context of this thread! We don’t mean microbes traveling on the back of a comet when we ask ‘‘do you believe in extraterrestrial life that has visited planet Earth?’’. You’re the stickler for the context of the thread, so keep it within that context.

Extraterrestrial life capable of spaceflight and capable of visiting other planets is absolutely hypothetical. There is no proof of such life in existence (if one does not count us, visiting the Moon).

It’s not just humans- we’re just the most dominant and most intelligent. Dolphins, squid, whales, gorillas and elephants are prime examples. Even crows can count and not only use tools, but MAKE them on the spot.

I absolutely agree with this. And never said otherwise. Animals are very intelligent. But what has that got to do with there _‘‘not being a material on Earth that can withstand the hazards of spaceflight’’?_

Thank for posting fact. I learned something from that. 😉

I counter with… 😆

Notable examples of spacecraft and satellites severely impaired or lost to micrometeoroid damage include:

- **Soyuz MS-22 (2022):** Docked at the International Space Station, the crew vehicle suffered a catastrophic loss of coolant after a micrometeoroid struck its external radiator, venting its coolant supply into space. This rendered the capsule uninhabitable for the crew’s return trip, forcing Roscosmos to launch the uncrewed Soyuz MS-23 as a replacement.

- **Olympus-1 (1993):** An experimental communications satellite operated by the European Space Agency was struck during the Perseid meteor shower. The impact knocked out its gyroscope stability, sending the craft into a wild spin that depleted its remaining fuel and forced a permanent decommissioning.

- **James Webb Space Telescope (2022):** While not lost, the telescope sustained several micrometeoroid strikes, including one significant impact to a mirror segment early in its mission. The impact exceeded pre-launch expectations, though engineers were able to realign the affected mirror using its actuators to maintain scientific performance.

We do not _at this time_ anyway have the tech to truly protect our space vehicles. And while we are working on it, I would have to assume that an actual space fairing race would have already solved this problem.

And with that knowledge, I doubt we would have the tech to even spot them as they _probably_ would not even need to enter earth’s atmosphere.
