LOL Drill Instructors way of motivating a recruit is by not asking nicely if a recruit would like to sit out the PT. If the recruit would like a refreshment to sit there. A drill instructor is building a Marine. A person who will dig deep for that last ounce of energy to to go a few more yards. Far from not caring the Drill Instructor was telling my brother that he either had better have a good reason for not finishing the run or get on his feet and move. There have been cases when a Drill Instructors have stood around a recruit pouring water on a recruit. While yelling at him to get on his feet or else. A Drill Instructor is not allowed to show mercy or favoritism. So they do the next best thing. They yell and scream while doing the very thing that a recruit really needs. The Royal Marines as I understand it do some things very similarly. Marines are not Army, Navy, or Air Force. They hit hard and make an impression. The reason they can do that starts at either Parris Island or at the San Diego training depot. ---
