No problem, I know you’re broke since the CSM elections so couldn’t afford a measly 10 bil ISK anyway so did not wanted to embarass you in front of everyone. 😊

The equivalent of `wordsalad` (oldspeak) is `duckspeak` (newspeak).

> To quack like a duck (usually indicating one’s delivery of newspeak, delivered without any active thought from the speaker, sounding very much like nothing but noise, but very clearly fully in line with Party ideology). “It is one of those interesting words that have two contradictory meanings. My best guess would be that he’s trying to survive more than the run-of-the-mill catalyst gank attacks (the ones that feature stealth bombers or navy exequrors). The only thing that will save you against a massed gank attack is buffer - plain and simple. Shield and armor reps buy you seconds at best - not enough in most cases to prevail until Concord arrives to the rescue.

Slight disagree. I’d say 9 times out of 10 it tells you if they pick their fights well. And by that I mean they pick fights they are all but guaranteed to win. Which doesn’t necessarily make them all that great in terms of skill. If you’re deciding based on kill/loss ratio instead of what ship they are currently flying (and their typical fit) vs. the ship you’re flying, you’re doing it wrong. This is something I hate about zkill and EVE solo PVP in general. You should not be able to see people’s fits like that. There should be some level of gambling involved. But that’s just me.

😆 Two of those are Career Agent missions that require you sacrifice a ship. And one was a covert data site node explosion when the guards showed up way too quickly mid hack. If you do the tutorial you will also have an AIR Astero loss. I guess if I had 20 shuttle kills you’d think I was some kind of PvP god. 🤭

You think this is the only account I have? And, yes, everyone is born an expert at ganking. It’s that simple.

I’ve read a few replies here, and I absolutely see the pros n’ cons of this change. I’m a causal, so those who take this game more seriously won’t care what I think, but it’ll definitely reduce the amount of time I play. I have an account I PVP on, and I have one I enjoy taking short PVE breaks on while I’m working from home. Sanity breaks, I like to think of them. I do so in a non-blingy marauder in .8 or above systems so I can just chill, knock out a mission, then go back to to work with my head cleared a little.

Seeing how incredibly vulnerable that ship is now…it’s just not worth it. I could be easily ganked even in a 1.0 system. If I want to be mashing d-scan and playing the PVP game properly, I’ll do that. Hi-sec is never ‘safe’ of course, but until this change you had to be pretty committed to gank a marauder quietly running missions in .9 space. Now…no problem.

The no-safe-space concept is critical to the game’s fun factor. I get that. Honestly, I’d hate it if I didn’t have to have a panic attack every time I flew through Uedama. While ganking seems to me the bottom rung of skill or fun in the game, I’m glad there are folk for whom this is all the challenge they need – without them things would be boring.

That said, the game is healthier if everyone can have a little choice in what style of game they want to play on a given day. While never being totally safe, if you’re willing to give up better loot, resources, or other incentives in exchange for being harder to gank, that feels like win/win across the board. Folk who want to mission, mine low-yield rocks, or explore in .9 space should never be totally safe, but what harm in having a shallow end to the pool?

Anyway, I’ll be parking my marauders to avoid being a pointless HS killmail. I’ll miss that sanity break, but changes come n’ go in this game, and there may be a future where it’s not foolish to take a brief mission break in my marauder again one day.

To be honest, Taggo, you could as easily have been ganked before the Marauder nerf. Nothing will stop a determined gank force, though of course some might be discouraged by brick-tanking. Usually, with Marauders, the gank is worth it, even if you didn’t bling your ship.

No, I don’t think your previous fit explains your escaping the gank fleet. Ganks are just not that frequent. Uedama, Jita and so on are where you encounter many of the fleets; they’re unlikely regularly to be targeting mission-runners in 0.9 systems outside of that. It’s not impossible, but it is comparatively rare.

I run L4 missions in a moderately expensive Vargur. I’ve been doing so in 0.5 and 0.9 systems for the best part of eight years and have not even encountered a baiter, let alone a ganker. Maybe I got lucky. That might change (Whoops!).

But, my Vargur is Active Tanked. No buffer. The reduction in falloff loses me about 4km in range, which is negligible since a Vargur always fights in falloff and already has a generous reach.

Look, at some point I will be ganked, that’s the way I see it. At some point you may also encounter opposition in the form of Aiko and friends, or their ilk. I’ve had around eight good years, so that’s fine.

Don’t let the possibility of something bad happening dent your determination to snatch those refreshing breaks you write about. It isn’t worth it.

But thats the point, HS pays so incredibly well, it is by far not a “shallow end of the pool” if you know how to make money there.

I know what you want to say and I do totally agree to most of it, this “constantly playing on your toes at every minute” is simply unhealthy for the game and playerbase. But really, if you want HighSec to be that area, you would have to _significantly_ cut the high-end ISK printing options there. Because once you have access to a maxskilled Marauder, know how to blitz L4/Burners and a T5/6 Abyssalship, no other space can generate even remotely such high income solo, full convenience, anytime you want and literally no major investments at risk.

For HS being the space you want it to be, they would have to move L4 missions (including Burners and EpicArcs), T4+5+6 Abyssals and Icebelts out of it. Because all that stuff pays _insanely well_ if you know how to run it efficiently. And you can do that basically _all day long_ undisturbed with no need of preparation, cooperation and minimal risk.

Sadly, I must agree, Syzygium. You can blitz L4s in Highsec as I did, in a Machariel. It’s cheaper than a Vargur and, perhaps, less of a prize catch.

I think if Taggo takes a good hard rational look at his situation, he’ll find it’s not as bad as he thinks.

What people tend to forget is that most PVE golems never fitted extenders to begin with. Pretty much all of them are shield boosted with incredibly low EHP. Nothing changes for those fits.

You mean, harder?

I would rather blitz them in a marauder.

Level V Mastery helps.

(I encountered a setback in Zarzakh with those BPO’s.)

The pirate factions don’t like me much, for some odd reason.

Well said, Sasha. Now that I’ve had time to digest the change, I’m less concerned about it. Like you, I’ve had very few gankers pester me while running L4s in HS. I still recall the last one – a scout popped by and when local suddenly spiked I simply warped to a station and waited for them to move on. As long as one remains aware of their surroundings, this change will likely have little impact on most who aren’t AFK.

And like I said in my previous post, without at least a little risk, even in those systems or in those ships that we like to imagine are a little safer, the game loses most if not all of what makes it an enduring and rewarding distraction. Thanks for your perspective, and yeah, I’ll still be out there…just watching local a little more attentively.

Agreed, Syzygium. As I said in my reply to Sasha, now that I’ve had time to digest the change, I’m less alarmed. I’ve always kept my eye on local and scanned for nearby scouts, even when running L4s in HS, so all this really means is giving up the security blanket that I never actually needed to begin with.
