Totally agree with OP …

Because looking at another person’s stuff is only fine when you actually know the person…

I am curious, how in fact would it be a nerf to gankers?

Can you fly a rookie ship?
Can you mine?
Can you mission?
Can you gank someone?

to get the modules you would need to scan with, without actually spending ISK??

It makes doing what they do more complicated as finding someone worth ganking becomes that much harder.

The scanner is engaged with finding information in an active way. They must be present to gain any information, and they have a purpose or objective that they are acting to fulfill as part of a process.

Flagging the scanner as suspect is a passive counter. It notifies people with a yellow flashing square that someone has become a legal target and someone in the area may shoot a defenseless (or nearly defenseless) ship.

I think gankers will be able to adapt to this change and not much will come of it for your average 'bear. However, I don’t think they should have to adapt when the risks of carrying overloaded freighters is so well known. You just shouldn’t do it, and if you disregard common sense, someone should be able to find you and take you to task for your poor judgement.

Also, I don’t mean to ignore @Ryan_B_Thiesant, but we philosophically disagree on the level of safety or privacy we are entitled to in the context of a video game, and I’m cool with that. I’ve said what on the subject I thought needed to be said and I don’t want to go back and forth making someone irate along the way.

Well if you don’t understand what your reward is for using a cargo or ship scanner that’s entirely on you for lack of knowledge. But you already know the reward so why lie?

100% agree with OP, Cargo scaners should give suspect timer. There is only a small group that would be afected by this change, and that is Highsec gankers that can kill with absolute impunity day and night with simply waiting out 15 min timer and than fixing standing with concord tags.

And with Broken killright system where you can make it only FFA or to particular pilot/group they can just undock in chep t1 frigate and get rid of the killright because you can’t set a group of ships whitch sould people be able to shot, like if they undock only in attack BC or bomber only then you can activate killright etc.

But making cargo scaner give suspect timer is a step in the right direction, fully support.

As far as i’m concerned all the resistance to this suggestion seems to be about this:

So then that should only be ok for gankers ? … it’s what ‘They’ are after right, **a big juicy defenseless ship** that has no clue what is coming for them. And now the request is to give that defenseless high ISK ship a little warning, and they cry out that it might make their cheap ‘burner’ a target?

How low has the bar for something to be called ‘tears’ fallen if this thread is considered salt by some players?

“Let’s propose a self-serving change to the game that has zero-chance of being implemented and treat any reasoned opposition to it as tears. It doesn’t matter that there is no hint CCP is considering such an idea, nor any reason to think they ever will make such a change to a basic intel tool that has been in the game from the beginning. We’ll call it all salt!”

This isn’t going to happen. There is no reason to think implementing it do anything other than make a bunch of butthurt, spiteful carebears happy for a few days before they or their comrades are exploded just the same as before and they move on to the next “one more nerf” that won’t change fundamental fact they are still prey items intentionally put on the menu by CCP.

The “defenseless” are defenseless by choice. They could choose not to fly solo but they don’t so by insisting on flying solo they are making themselves targets and have no right to whine or suggest changes.

The counter for getting ganked is making friends. No game change can protect them from a 10v1.

I agree the kill rights would benefit from being re-looked at because they’re clearly not working as intended. Perhaps associating the kill right with the ship used rather than the pod is a better suggestion but this comes with it’s own restrictions.

However, flagging anyone who scans a ship or it’s cargo suspect is a bad idea. Scanning is not an aggressive acy and policing in this game has never been pre-emptive. Criminal activities make you vulnerable to punishment/retribution AFTER the fact whereas this change would move this to beforehand.

Innocent until proven guilty (the proof being “we saw you shoot them”).

Flagging scanners is “guilty of considering whether or not to commit a crime”.

So were many others things that were changed many times over because they were not working well, just as ship/cargo scaner is right now.

here comes the salt? Wardecking is broken, Killrights are broken and easly rid of since you can no specify ship type in them. Making ship/cargo scaner usge go suspect is very good addition since usage of it is only for combat purpose and should be treated as such insted of beeing free intel tool on numerous alts that provide free info with 0 risk.
