Then how about “interference”? Yes, a Tracking Disruptor has no practical use against a Freighter. But the module itself is used to interfere with weapon systems in general.

Scanners on the other hand, have no detrimental effect on the target whatsoever. It’s the guns the scanner starts using after which have an effect. And shooting is indeed a Criminal act in High Sec.

You guys arguing against Ship and Cargo Scanners are about one step shy of arguing that the use or even deployment of Combat Probes should also get you Concord’d. Or that using a narrow beam Dscan to locate a ship should also get you Concord’d, just b/c it helps give away intel on another player and their ship.

Some would say you’re being a bunch of cry babies. And that EvE has always stood for “Everyone vs Everyone”. And whether it’s undercutting someone’s market orders by 0.01 isk. Or it’s scanning an Indy ship as it undocks. The game is all about competition. There are already too many safeguards in place to help Care Bears sleep better at night.

Just remember, the **only** safe place is docked inside a station. Even in High Sec, you are not “safe”. You’re just “safer” in the knowledge that the other guy will suffer just as you suffer. But your suffering is not impossible.

That doesn’t change suspicious activity into something that is ignored. If I walk into a parking lot and start looking into everybody’s cars while they’re at work do you really think I should be ignored?

If someone is looking in car windows, you are more than welcome to be extra cautious and concerned. But you are not entitled to shoot them in the face. And a Suspect flag would do just that. They looked at you, so you shot them.

Cool story. How does a tracking disruptor harm or damage a freighter.

There can’t even be intent because willingly tracking disrupting a freighter can’t harm it in any way.

However, a scanner gets Intel from a ship or cargo the owner likely wants to keep private.

Just make ship/cargo scanners vs other players a suspicious activity. More targets for everyone.

Are you saying CCP should treat every ship differently in terms of crimewatch because they are not affected the same way by different e-war?

Please make that thread.

So? So what?

If they wanted it kept private they can use the proper tools. Otherwise you don’t have any. You can be stalked, scanned in more ways than one, infiltrated, stolen from, sabotaged…all without a flag. The history of your character can be searched on the internet. All in the name of intel that you may prefer to be private.

Get a grip. HTFU.

No one who wants scanners to go suspect is trying to create content. They are just trying to spite gankers.

Otherwise there would be better arguments than:
‘But real life’
‘But my characters privacy’
‘But i want to shoot ganker alts. No not the gankers themselves.’ 🤔

- Gankers can just as easily use suicide alts to scan (which is already happening with scanners also sometimes providing initial tackle).

- And haulers can already use double wrapping to make themselves unscannable and have ALL the privacy they want.

- Like MinerArt pointed out, you’re not going to shoot a suspect scanner when you’re in a ship with no weapons. Remember? The one that can’t be tracking disrupted?

- Once a ship is scanned, the scanner has all the information they need as well, irrespective of whether you shoot them or not.

- You can already shoot the gankers. They are criminals. And shooting the gankers MIGHT actually make a difference. Unlike shooting a throw away scanner ship that’s already got what it wanted.

TL;DR

No one is fooled by the ‘I want more targets to shoot’ or ‘It will create content’.

You disrupt their tracking systems… Even if you expect no direct retaliation because lack of weapons doesn’t mean it’s not directly attacking their systems.

What tracking systems?
You need to fit a weapon to have a tracking system.

I fail to see what is wrong with that since people bump miners for no other reason than to just bump a miner.

More people going suspect means more targets. Why do gankers have a problem with more targets?

Okay?

An extra step because scanners don’t flag you as a suspect.

Random people flying around would gladly shoot at a suspect in a crap ship. It happens all the time.

> [@Daichi\_Yamato](#):

So? That doesn’t mean the act isn’t suspicious.

Why shouldn’t we be able to shoot their scanner alts too? What is wrong with more targets in space that anyone can shoot at?

> [@Daichi\_Yamato](#):
>

Cool story. It isn’t meant to fool. It is meant to give people more targets in high sec. You know the thing gankers/baiters like.

Let’s get right down to it…

Anyone who fits weapons to their ship, is just looking for trouble. So we should just Flag anyone with weapons.

In fact, let’s just Flag anyone who undocks from a station. If you undock, you might do something evil.

Let’s just Flag everyone…

> [@Ildrara](#):

That’s because in this case whether actual harm is done or not depends on how the target ship is fitted, and the system obviously doesn’t check that. It just checks whether the module used is in the list of mods that might do some actual harm _directly by itself_, not indirectly as a result of what some other pilot might or might not do later.

> [@Ildrara](#):
>
> There can’t even be intent because willingly tracking disrupting a freighter can’t harm it in any way.

Intent has nothing to do with whether a module causes a Crimewatch flag. Only whether the mod may do some harm _directly by itself_ matters.

So what?

It IS a “suspicious” activity, but that by itself is not a reason to give a suspect timer…

But that’s not a valid reason either. You cannot pretend that the more people to shoot at should be the ones that happen to do things you don’t like…

> [@Ildrara](#):
>
> More people going suspect means more targets. Why do gankers have a problem with more targets?

I’m not a ganker and I don’t have a problem with more targets either.

What I do have a problem with is people pretending the game should be changed _in their favour_, so they have more targets _for themselves_…

What I do have a problem with is people pretending that, in order to accomplish that, a game mechanic should be extended to cases it’s not meant for…

Kinda like logi alts in high sec…oh wait patched.
Kinda like being able to have a disco party in high sec and killing concord…oh wait patched.
Kinda like pos bumping for free supers…oh wait patched.
Kinda like getting insurance payout with a ship you ganked someone in…oh wait patched.
I could go on…I have been around for well over 10 years.

Damn…it is almost like the devs patch things over time that people exploit for their benefit.

I don’t hang out in Jita often enough to shoot suspects nor do I hang out in Uedama and shoot at gankers.
So please explain how this benefits me at all? Good luck lol.

What exactly is wrong with flagging someone as a suspect that scans a ship or cargo of another players ship?
All I see is a bunch of people trying to protect their ganking activities.

I really don’t have a problem with expanding the definition of what constitutes a suspect activity.

> • Stealing from an unowned wreck or container
> • Providing remote assistance to a suspect player
> • Shooting any unowned mobile structure
> • **Initiating a cargo scan on another ship**

Note that I’m excluding ship scans from the list because I don’t necessarily feel that assessing a ship’s combat capability is something that should trigger a suspect flag.
