Sad. This is what youve been reduced to. Cant argue, so you resort to, funnily enough, straw mans.

Bye.

> Lets say there are two pilots in the same ship, doing the same role and they’re both in range. One is someone who’s known to be a good player who pulls his weight, tries to do his best, is active and contributing and generally a nice guy. The other is none of those, he’s generally lazy, useless, out of position far too often, probably drunk or stoned an has a history of being annoying.

_Most_ of the time the enemy fleet will be targeting one ship…because their FC will have broadcast ’ target XYZ '. Clearly a player with an entire fleet firing at them needs rep. _Sometimes_ the enemy FC will issue a ‘fire at will’…though even in those circumstances most people will fire at the nearest ship, but if there are multiple ships fired at then clearly each one is getting less of the total fire which itself should make surviving easier.

People are supposed to broadcast for rep…and the fact is that I’ve heard FCs telling people to broadcast a lot more times than I’ve heard FCs tell logi _who_ to rep. Generally, logi don’t need telling.

Just like your car exists when you’re not driving it, ‘the list’ exists when you’ve no need to consult it… Because Aisha already describes situations where the list is not being used, describing one such situation does not invalidate the existence of a list, or oppose the position she’s taken.

I do this in any game where I am a healer. There is a standard order determined by game mechanics and practical matters you have to follow to be effective and so there is no real choice to make most of the time, but some of the time there are situations where I have to make a judgement call, and in those situations I will fall back to my subjective personal preferences based on my past experiences with the people present.

Even if no situation existed where an active logi pilot can possibly decide who to rep, a logi pilot makes a decision on which faction or fleet to join, which influences who lives and who dies even if they have to act like a drone and do what they’re told at all times after that choice is made. There’s probably a ‘list’ of fleets or factions the pilot prefers to join in a priority order based on personal preference and past experience, too.

I was looking at the OP and was thinking that this was not quite true.

I was in a lot of fleets when I was in Tactical Supremacy, many times I had one DPS and a logi, but sometimes i ran two logi. As we used Osprey’s we had a logi chain, so you had the one up one down to watch for, your chain buddies being one choice. You were asked to lock up specials and the FC, and you watched the list and of course those requesting reps.

You have a choice on how to apply your reppers, if you saw reps catching and another target taking damage most notably the specials you would make a decision where to apply your reps and when to stop repping and the like. In effect your decisions within the heat of battle impacted who lived and who died. Though I could not say that I was in charge of that.

I think the OP just wanted to have a dig at CCP and made himself look a bit small minded in doing so.

I would say that playing in a fleet like this is actually rather cool…

My only issue with this ad was that is healers generally in any game.

In wow I can see dps stand in fire. That DPS will die. I can’t fix stupid. And I won’t burn mana on stupid either.

They learn to not stand in fire, or they drop group. DPS drops are filled quickly, no skin lost of the nose there.

Maybe first few years… Few minutes seems like not enough time at some point.
Sometimes you would want to live in this fake world instead of having a wife.

I think the ad should start with showing a stereotypical wife at some age. American. In bed. All the pounds of her, and her husband very tired after an encounter. Ad should be then about that husband entering a capsule, entering EVE spaceship, preferably Thorax, and using it with a group of friends to gank a freighter in space and having fun that way. Of course it would be very controversial, but that is not an issue I think for Icelanders.

But the problem is, the scenario shes quoting is something that rarely happens, if ever. When do you find yourself in a situation where all things are equal, two people are being hit at the same time, where your reps will only be able to barely save one person, youre the only logi available, and your decision comes down to who you like more?

The more likely situation is, someone is going to be redboxed first, start taking damage first, and broadcast first, and youre gonna start repping them first. One of them is going to take more damage, and lose HP faster than the other. If youre not in a large fleet, one of them is going to be closer, or farther to the enemy, and completely pinned down/scrammed/webbed. These conditions make it easy and obvious to select a target. And as Aisha Katalen said, theres nothing to choose when that happens.

> [@Qia\_Kare](#):
>
> Even if no situation existed where an active logi pilot can possibly decide who to rep, a logi pilot makes a decision on which faction or fleet to join, which influences who lives and who dies even if they have to act like a drone and do what they’re told at all times after that choice is made. Well, no, you could join a faction that already has 10000 logi pilots waiting, in which case you joining that faction would not change anything. On the flip side, you could be the only Logi pilot who joined, and when a 100 man fleet primaries a target, your single reps does nothing and the person dies instantly.

But what youre talking about here, is no different than saying “Im a miner and all I do is mine, but I choose to log on to eve and mine, therefore i choose who lives and who dies, because If i didnt mine, My minerals that i sell on the market would never have been bought by someone who built XYZ which ended up killing another player.” In the broader sense, and under any and all situations, im sure there is a scenario where that is true, but we dont really consider the claim of “miners choose who lives and dies” as being true because it is too far removed from the result. You cant logi a one man fleet consisting of yourself and call yourself a Logi, you need to be apart of atleast one more person, a group, in order to be a Logi. The fact that this is necessary, means that youre not actually choosing who lives and dies when you choose to join a group, because its a necessary choice. Unlike repping, which you can absolutely choose to refuse to rep someone, even if they are the only one taking damage in the fleet.

Sounds like the list was premade before you even went into any battle.

I dont know how large your fleets were or how many Logi were in your fleet, but in every fleet where ive been logi in, we had rules. We had a watchlist made beforehand. We would target anyone who broadcast for reps just in case, especially on larger fleet battles, because the rules were determined that people would broadcast even if they were only yellowboxed so that they dont die while being alphad off the grid. We would apply the majority of our reps onto any single player taking the brunt of the damage but keep a rep module off and in reserve, incase they decide to split targets or try to damage another ship to try and split logi reps.

There wasnt really a choice, anymore than a single fleetmember taking damage and you choosing not to rep them. Weve played this game long enough to understand what is and isnt best practice for Logis in fleet.

Lets say you have to choose to save one dps over the other. Perhaps one is very much out of position or for whatever reason he’s not paying attention today, perhaps he’s drunk and you don’t expect or trust him to deliver.

Lets say you have to choose between two other logis to rep, assuming all the other factors create a dead lock and one of them has all lvl 5 logi related skills, the other just started and is low and also low on experience.

Those all factor in.

Life is really easy when your logic and reasoning only consists of extremes, straw mans and lack of perspective. But reality has nuance and detail where certain factors affect and weigh in on certain decisions, not always but in cases where everything else evens out they do. This is really just a case of “ignorance is bliss”.

We did tend to know what we were doing.

Fleet size depended on whether we were alliance or coalition, but from 70+ to couple of hundred.

On the bigger fleets no, but the smaller fleets you could be more nuanced as people often switched targets and the like if our reps were too good.

I just want to say that this is absolutely genius, and I hope that CCP starts doing this soon. Now all the mouth-breathers mining 0.9 Veldspar in their Retrievers can role-play being fearsome gods of death. There won’t even be a need to push the subtle “be a space pirate!” angle with their marketing that’s aimed at new/casual players to delude them into thinking that they’re doing something respectable, and not merely sucking up waste scraps like bottom-feeders.
