# **The illusion of space travel**

This game started out like a spreadsheet strategic puzzlegame in space. When you play EVE you are mostly sitting in a station preparing for a space mission and then you travel to the destination to do the thingy to get the isk to go and sit back in the station. When you log off from EVE you are still sitting in that station preparing which The Mittani called **The Meta Show.**

The api lets you do a lot of EVE related tasks so a lot of the successes in game are engineered while not even logged into the game. The skill queue game mechanic, [Dotlan](https://evemaps.dotlan.net), the [Killboard](https://zkillboard.com) & the character bazaar are examples of this. It also explains why one clever nerdy guy could become the most powerful EVE player while never being on the battlefield.

> **[The Mittani's Crime & Punishment In Eve Online](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/the-mittanis-crime-punishment-in-eve-online)**
>
> The Mittani, Eve Online's most famous and infamous player, has learned the hard way that the internet is serious busine…

The reason this so called sandbox game is so cruel is because their always will be a conflict of interest between CCP, the players and the players. You read that correctly. This game literally is divide and conquer where the players mostly by political games can exert pressure which leads to a cut trhoat ruthless “sandbox” game.

As said before the game is designed for you to feel crushed when your ship gets blown up. It is the ideal pay to play minigame that masks itself as a space sim like Star Citizen tries to be. If you haven’t done your homework knowing all the constantly changing rules of play (balancing: CCP reserves the right to make constant changes to keep people guessing and active adjusting their gameplay).

Just see it as Casino where the players are constantly trying to find flaws with the game mechanics of Black Jack, like Vantage players they count the cards and try to get away with it. CCP is notorious for it’s reaction on people finding ways to control, manipulate, exploit and get away with it.

So undock and warp to the gate. Do you see your ship? Or does it feel like you are served up a pov with a little pawn centered in the middle of a warp tunnel cutscene because the warp itself has no action to it. You could just as well be presented with a message saying “you are in warp to the gate”. It feels very much like riding an elevator isn’t it and when you jump through the gate it is like the elevatordoors opening.

## The biggest single shard free to play MMO of all time

trailer transcript:

> **Summary**
>
> EVE Online is a vast universe, alive with the unrelenting activity and combined history of its players. Pursuing lives of adventure, warfare and prosperity, they share this existence in the biggest single-shard free-to-play MMO of all time.
>
> Set 21,000 years in the future, EVE takes place in a distant cluster of over 7,000-star systems known as New Eden. It is a rich and diverse universe, featuring densely-populated havens of relative safety governed by four great Empires, hostile systems where player alliances make the rules, even regions of anomalous and unexplored space that hold their own secrets.
>
> You play as a capsuleer, a revered breed of highly-trained pilot, having achieved immortality through the use of cloning technology. You navigate the universe encased in an armored capsule deep within your ship, where you have complete neural control and function as one.
>
> There are hundreds of ships to fly in EVE. Everything from small nimble craft and versatile mid-range vessels, to formidable warships and colossal freighters. Each has advantages and suited roles, but all are completely customizable as you decide how to equip and arm them. What you do in New Eden is entirely up to you. EVE’s immense sandbox gives you the opportunity to choose between multiple professions and activities.
>
> The key to this unique customization of your playstyle is skill training. This is a passive process, and it continues whether you are in or out of the game. As a new player, you can focus on one specific area in order to quickly reach the same level of specialization as a veteran.
>
> So be adventurous and explore new avenues of development for your character, as you can always change role and reinvent yourself if desired.
>
> If you want to fight, combat in EVE can involve solo missions against non-player adversaries or small group skirmishes, while for some, it can even be the thrill of fleeting up with thousands of fellow pilots and battling over disputed territory.
>
> If you want to explore, then the discovery of uncharted space and ancient regions that promise riches, danger and adventure await you.
>
> You can also engage in the business of prosperity, be it industry, mining or even interstellar piracy. The beauty of life in New Eden is that all of these activities, and many more, can be done alone or with others.
>
> A unique in-game market, unprecedented in scale and degree of player control, is the beating heart of New Eden. Players are responsible for the manufacture of almost everything you can buy or sell.
>
> The gathering and refinement of resources, the building of ships, equipment and even some space stations - EVE’s players are core to how the universe is filled and how the economy thrives.
>
> Players in EVE can band together to form corporations where they can enrich their experience, learn new elements of gameplay, and share their wealth and goals. When these player-run corporations grow to become larger entities, they can merge with other corps to form alliances.
>
> Powerful alliances regularly compete for control and influence over large areas of space, waging wars and engaging in record-breaking battles. Even taking down well-defended, sprawling player-built space stations.
>
> In the spirit of exploration and mystery, new content and experiences are constantly introduced into the universe, with over a decade of free expansions leading to continual development and evolution of gameplay.
>
> While every action and decision has consequences for the universe and its hundreds of thousands of players, the game remains very much about your unique adventure and story.
>
> A story that will forever be woven into the fabric of EVE.

Ever calculated what you are spending your time on when logged into the game? Maybe something like this: 50% station, 10% undock, 10% gate. 28% travel/warp and 2% combat. If you figure out that most of EVE Online is basically preparing for your next chess move and that this can be expanded outside of the client with the API and the forums, and everything else that the community build then it puts into perspective why people are still hoping that Star Citizen will be the space sim that EVE never was.

# The Small Container

Although many people will proudly declare that EVE has realism to its world when you [Delve](https://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Delve#kills24) a little deeper you see that this game is a lot of BS. Yesterday I found out a clever way to deny gankers a win by using a small audit log container to transport valuable cargo (30 LSI) to learn that the box with password is 100 cubic meters big. So I put 30 viles in a vault the size of a studio apartment inside a frigate which would normally be the size of a X-wing but the **Condor frigate** in EVE Online has an unpackaged volume of **18,000 m³** , a mass of **1,100,000 kg** , and a physical length of approximately **74 m** making it roughly **6 times longer** than an X-wing, which measures only **12.5 to 13.4 m.**

Why you mad it’s only a game? Because we are supposed to be thousands of years in the future and eve players or capsuleers are immortal but stupid if we need to believe the lore of EVE. Why not make a briefcase or suitcase or any other carry-on bag for transport of goods.

Then I discovered that the escape frigate inside the battleship can not have a container with lsi in its cargo because of why exactly?

Ow yes. This game will have you running around in circles forever because every aspect of the game from travel to trade to combat to skill is a calculated move, a formula. So wasting hours and hours preparing for a certain outcome is what this game has always been.

Imagine a monopoly game with the rules changing constantly like in “real life” because hey, EVE is a sandbox.

Here is a question for you:

Why would anyone be interested in reading (that much of) AI slop?

Interesting read, thank you.
I myself don’t see gaming-related issues quite the same way. I’m not interested in knowing who did what to be the best in pixel manipulation and not interested in comparing myself to anyone.
Although I like to know about a game’s lore, it isn’t why I play. I don’t play to be the best or the richest either. I play to have something pleasant and interesting to do, doesn’t matter the game although I have my favorites.
I don’t pay much attention to irregularities and things that “don’t make sense” in a game. It is what it is. EVE may not be a Sandbox in the purist sense but it’s sandboxy enough for me.

Assuming this post isn’t just the hallucinations of an LLM, you actually found a clever way to give gankers more loot.

My only problem with this sandbox is people in the far right corner cry if I play in the sandbox a certain way. Like if I want to kick sand castles over in high sec I should be rewarded for my time and effort, much like if I see someone playing with shiny toys and I want to take them in high sec I should be able to take them without needless crying and temper tantrums.

CCP really needs to make a venture popping mini game or something.

There’s always going to be someone who complains and whines incessantly about what others may or may not do while they themselves do the same things in different ways with different tools.
I pay no mind to whiners. If FC permits it then let the whine fall on deaf ears.

they call it instancing, when the warping affect initiates, what it’s actually doing is instancing you to the next system node, they do this so that there aren’t any traffic jams when too many tries to warp at one time, it’s no secret or conspiracy

World of Warcraft gives the illusion of being one continuous world because its outdoor instances are connected into a persistent overworld. Your character remains in the same general game world while traveling through roads, terrain, portals, and paths.

The game divides the world into zones and regions. As you move, the server can transfer responsibility for nearby parts of the world between machines, while the client loads and unloads terrain, models, textures, NPCs, and other data in the background.

Other games put a visible loading screen between almost every major map because they treat each map as a separate level or instance. This is simpler and often more efficient: the game can unload the previous map entirely, load only the assets needed for the next one, and run that map on a different server or process. This is how Eve Online keeps the servers from being a mess.

If you would only have the engagements (combat) work smooth without TiDI to get as many people wanting to do the big battles and have that other stuff on a other server all together that would have been the solution. EVE is mostly you sitting in a commandcentre not a cockpit. Ironically when The Mittani was proclaiming that EVE is the spaceships he was being selfish but also wrong. This game was never about the engagements in our "spaceships"it’s about getting suckered in the game by the beautiful trailers and getting buried in expensive (time & effort & money) pixels.

Well I would want to at least advise to hedge against getting sucked in by doing these things:

- **Never train your toon passed 50M SP only if you must**. This simple rule will have you get the most out of your skillpoints which stand for time investment. In EVE time actually is money or some sort of commodity. So weigh your skillpoints carefully. Example: in your alliance they want you to crosstrain into a new shipdoctrine after the new nerfs got known. Rather than train on top of your current skills, retract skills to adjust the character to fit the doctrine or build a new fleet char for being compliant with your alliance.
- **Your identity can be an echo of your main you started with**. For instance on the forums people identify me as @One_Ugly_Cat but I had to biomass that char. People can still call me this former name but in all honesty not being in Teamspeak or even in Alliance Fleets and given that speaking in local is not my thing I rather have my actions speak louder than words and I also tend to avoid politics in EVE
- **Be honest about how you spend your time in the game**. If you are bored, poor, angry, lonely, etc. then see in what way you can surround yourself with new things and people in game. Taking a break is also good advise. Many people in EVE are seasonal players, they play the game on occassion or check in once in a while. Try to uninstall the client for one month to test and even clear the skillqueue if needed to see how you are still not too burned out.

Let me elaborate on that. When you stop the skill queue what is the real damage?

4 x 500000 SP per month always. So 2 million SP is what you need to catch up on if you would want to not feel like you wasted your monthly subscription. That is 2.8 Billion ISK or around 600 PLEX to catch up. What is that around $15 ? If you already had some Skill Injectors saved up (keep around 50 to 100 in stock) then you wouldn’t stress out as much when you forgot about the queue.

Anyways, don’t forget to have fun. 😃
