Many years later the woman was identified as Concepción Peña Gómez, stage name “Conchita La Carajarapa”, professional flamenco dancer. A colorized version of the image went viral and Ms. Peña was identified and found at nearly 90 years old, living in Benalmádena, Málaga. The child was her youngest, Manuel. During her career her face was used in publicity shots and billboards while she danced in films, met Hollywood stars, at one point Kirk Douglas tried to go dinner alone with her, but she was married and refused. The irony: she’s not even gipsy… ---

Malheur County covers a piece of high desert that’s boring even for a desert, and although it’s poor and sparsely populated, at least is in the middle of nowhere useful, the kind of place that makes foreigners think “huh, that was a wrong turn after all” and go back to funnier places like Iowa or Utah. ---
