I’m more of a “car-optional” urban dweller. The list of essential places I can reach within 15 minutes on foot is ridiculously large, and I like it this way. ---

I actually agree with that. It should be possible to get your everyday groceries within walking distance of your home, including a few restaurants, and the rest of the city should be easily accessible via public transport. But cities still need roads. If I want to drive downtown to buy a couch, I should be able to. If I want to drive to the next town over, I should be able to. If my commute to work is more than thirty minutes on public transport, I should be able to drive there instead. What I’m most bothered by is the people who want to get rid of all car accessibility in favour of bicycles and scooters. Bike paths should exist and be safe to use, of course, but cyclists are a menace in traffic (yes, even in cities built around bikes; I’ve been to Amsterdam, getting around town was awful) and I absolutely don’t want to have to get on a bicycle in the rain or during winter just to get to work or to buy paprika. If you enjoy that, fine, but the rest of us are reasonable human beings who don’t want to be miserable. Cities function perfectly fine without forcing bicycles on everyone, and if your place is getting so dense that this becomes a necessity the solution is to just make the city less dense instead. Encourage development in the suburbs, and when that becomes impractical, the government needs to just encourage people to move to other cities instead. ---

Despite the electric motors being quieter, cleaner, simpler and quite more reliable than ICE (internal combustion engines), recharging batteries with electricity was more expensive than filling tanks with gas, and the range was very limited. It wasn’t their time, and then WW1 ramped up ICE production and electricity (and steam) were abandoned for mobility on roads, with the exception of wire-fed trolley buses. ---
