Children ravelers and loopers by Lewis Wilkes Hine|, december of 1910 Ravelers sorted and fixed loose threads on stockings, and loopers operated the machine that sealed the toetips. Those jobs required swift hands and good eyesight, but the pay was low and adults wouldn’t take it so it was mostly children who made those and other low force tasks. Girls were preferred because they were more attentive and less prone to distracting out of boredom. ---

Time to go to sleep, but first, here’s a nifty little web to peek beyond paywalls: > **[RemovePaywall | Free online paywall remover](https://www.removepaywall.com)** > > Remove Paywall, free online paywall remover. Get access to articles without having to pay or login. Works on Bloomberg and hundreds more. It fetches archived versions of the page, just paste the relevant address and try different archive options. Option 2 uses to work fine. And now I’m off to bed. Night night lovelies!
