How did Stalin plan to invade the Japanese islands? As far as mattered to Japan, Stalin could have Manchuria and go f himself, the only ones with a fleet to invade Japan were the American, who also happened to have a means to wipe out whole cities with a single airplane and a single bomb. The USSR was the lesser of worries to Japan and Stalin only moved on Manchuria once the Japanese forces were smaller than the soviet eastern armies so Stalin could get a piece of the cake without moving troops across the whole bloody USSR and away from the juicy conquests in the West. ---

The USSR spent the whole of its amphibious naval force (all of 60 craft and 78 airplanes with 15,000 soldiers) to painstakingly seize the Kuril islands out of what was left of the Japanese forces (still 80,000 troops in a godforsaken minor corner of the empire). The Japanese main were out of question without the USA borrowing the means to Stalin, which they refused completely. So, as I said, Stalin was a non-factor to the Japanese unless the war lasted long enough for he soviets to get their act together in the Pacific, and even then the US would be first, and as far as the Japanese were concerned, the third city-buster bomb could land on somewhere they really couldn’t afford to lose well before Stalin was a threat to the Japanese main. And eastern Europe was a far more priced trophy bird which Stalin already had in hand. ---

The Japanese army at this point was almost as spent as their navy. We saw from the Volkssturm how effective child soldiers are. You’re wrong, but I won’t argue this any more in this forum since I know the janitors here hate discussions. You can mail me in-game if you would like more information. ---

I’ve been to different fields of opinion on this topic, so chances are that I’ve already heard everything you’ve got to say, and have already said it myself in the past. And it really doesn’t matter now. The present is present and past is past, we can use the past to figure the present and speculate about the future, but it’s a faulty tool and being real is different from being the reality. Everything you see in the opening of Star Wars are real things (real model ships on a real painting of a planet) but they’re not reality… …and the sensible Japanese were lucky of the USA giving a plausible excuse to stop the war without the hawks murdering the Emperor and throwing everyone into whatever horrors would have Olympus brought upon all parts. Because the USA only had four fissible cores and after spending three, a fourth one would barely have achieved anything the previous two hadn’t… but they brought surrender. ---
