AMD is vulnerable to variants 1 and 2 (Spectre), just as pretty much every CPU out there that implements speculative execution. Spectre is a hardware vulnerability that requires a firmware upgrade (selectively disabling speculative execution) to be mitigated. “Patching” it requires an architecture redesign. Only Intel is vulnerable to variant 3 (Meltdown), but that can be patched in software at the cost of severe performance loss. Spectre is hard to exploit and hard to mitigate, Meltdown is pretty much a joke to exploit. ---

Wow, looks like things have been heating up in the E:D universe! Thargoids have attacked three outposts at the Pleiades, citizens are leaving the core systems for Colonia settlements (that’s a 20,000 light years trip IIRC) and Lakon has launched a heavily armed version of the Type 9 freighter, called the Type 10 Defender, as a first response to the increasing Thargoid attacks on shipping. Well, AMD stated something slightly different than what I have seen in news reports, and i have seen what you wrote earlier in news so I would rather trust AMD with their response. Would they not know their own CPUs? I still dont see the WIS in Elite. 😔 Only SC made a jump on this feature in such a scale. Really it looks like 16GB of RAM wil be needed. 🤯 ---
