EVE is a game with a lot of PvP in it, and it’s in its very late lifecycle. Spawn -\> die -\> repeat is not a cycle most people will find fun, but it is a pattern which will emerge in just about every game with a PvP component. The natural progression of PvP is the worst enemy of any PvP game. EVE has survived a long time because there are a lot of other mechanics to play with which don’t involve repeatedly smacking your head against a brick wall.

He’s hoping you’ll buy a new ship so he can shoot it down. Same with the messages some people send to newbies explaining nicely how they were caught: it’s not altruism, it’s self-interest.

Aye
Many good people around.

Somewhat sad tho that many of us are deemed as “bad players” because of what we do ingame (in my case people think I’m a bad evil player because of what they think I do, which I don’t do 😀)

Well yeah. We’ve established that this is a game about destroying spaceships. You called it an opinion but you were incorrect, it is a fact. I assume you think someone who “kills” one of your chess pieces is also a bad person?

Basically it’s stupid to pretend that someone blowing you up in a PvP game about blowing things up is a big bad meanie. It’s literally the same as losing at chess, or tennis. If you find yourself resenting someone purely for beating you, it’s probably you who is the monster (the green eyed one).

While I agree with your overall sentiments, I don’t agree with these analogies, and perhaps more importantly I am sure the people with the ‘_he killed me therefore he is a bad person_’ mentality don’t either, and therein lies the problem.

Chess, the sole objective is to beat your opponent, who is clearly your opponent, he that _must_ be defeated. Tennis, the sole objective is to beat your opponent, who is clearly your opponent, he that _must_ be defeated. Clear cut. No alternatives. One option, one outcome.

_Two men enter, one man leaves._

 ![Eh0Zucs](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/eveonline/original/3X/4/7/475c7fb44af03f31a5565889c8a6d1346d6d75bd.jpg)

Where the problem starts with people who cannot get their heads around PvP combat they don’t wish to be involved in despite being in a PvP environment is the fact that ‘you didn’t _have_ to kill them’. The choice to do so is then taken as an indication that you are a bad person. You could have flown past. You could have tiptoed through the daffodils together. You could have [insert other thing you could have done here].

Point is, there are multiple outcomes other than two men enter, one man leaves.

However, beyond establishing that, I in no way, shape or form believe that taking _any_ of the options available in an always on PvP environment makes anyone a bad person.

There is no such thing as a ‘space restraining order’.

I think you are having trouble distinguishing in game actions from out of game actions, having problems with distinguishing fantasy from reality:

Like this ^

> [@Mayhaw\_Morgan](#):

> If he was such a good guy, why did he destroy [the original poster’s ship]?

And this^

If you read through my previous responses to your nonsense in other threads you would see that your attitude is ‘nonsensical’ because if one applies your ‘logic’ coherently one is left with no games at all ,no monopoly, no whist etc.

**The equation**

X is bad in real life
GameB lets a player do X without breaking the rules of the game
X is ‘bad’ irl (for instance blowing up an ‘innocent’ spaceship)
PersonG does X in game, Mayhaw does not
PersonG is bad ‘in game’
THEREFORE
PersonG is bad IRL

**IS FALSE**

**As is the following equation** :

X is bad in real life
GameB lets a player do X without breaking the rules of the game
X is ‘bad’ irl (for instance blowing up an ‘innocent’ spaceship)
PersonG does X in game, Mayhaw does not
PersonG is bad ‘in game’
THEREFORE
PersonG is bad IRL
THEREFORE
**_Mayhaw is good irl_**

(an equation on which you sustain yourself
like a lonely badger left licking the dried remains of its dead mothers milk from her rotten teet)

I love how you think you just burned me 🙂 I bet you always feel like that when you post, for the first few seconds.

There is mining because the economy requires fresh materials to replace **the stuff that got blown up**. If there were no stuff getting blown up there would be no mining because nobody would want your ore now that it’s worthless. We all function to keep this great machine running, and it **ONLY** runs when stuff is being blown up. EvE is categorically a game about blowing stuff up, rebuilding it and doing it again. Surely you are not so short sighted as to think mining is separate from this? or PI? or anything?

Your position that if you can point out one thing (SKINS) that are not PvP based (they are PvP based since you can fight over them in space and they cause conflict) then by rights EvE must not be about blowing things up. The reality is that EvE is a game about destroying stuff, and everything that comes along with it (replacing the stuff that gets blown up / buying new stuff to blow up or get blown up).

Your butt-hurt is approaching a magnitude not seen in a good while. Perhaps you should take up a less challenging game or at least one that isn’t about destruction.

But how can we know that if all we have to draw conclusions are the IN-GAME actions of the player? Are you saying we can determine whether they are good, but not whether they are bad, based on what they do in an always-on PVP sandbox environment?

Quite obviously not. The only sane way to look at it, is to separate someone’s in game actions from their real life persona as much as is possible within the game rules. You must immerse yourself in the new world and accept that in some games the objective is to beat someone else. Don’t be a sore looser when that person is you and you won’t get thoroughly abused on the forums when you whine about it.

Okay, so there’s other ways to look at it. Buy some of those ways are just insane. That’s an interesting assertion to make. I look forward to your supporting it. Is it the people who are insane for believing otherwise? Is that what you’re claiming? That’s pretty broadly categorizing if it is.

And why is that the case in EVE?

Can you point out an instance of this “abuse”? Do you mean space abused? You seem to be casting a lot of judgement on both the player that is “butt hurt” and on the person who is abusive. I just want to make sure you’re not insane.

I mean forum abused, if that were a phrase. You can find examples under most of your butt-hurt posts. I’m one of the abusers but there have been others. In this case despite the divergance from the dictionary meaning I think the abuse was justified. Whether it continues to be depends on your ability to grasp that games aren’t something to get upset over, and that if you do you shouldn’t be playing them.

> [@Mayhaw\_Morgan](#):
>
> Are you saying we can determine whether they are good, but not whether they are bad, based on what they do in an always-on PVP sandbox environment?

No

I am saying that within the context of any game
markers like good and bad are relative to the ruleset of that game
within the game
Not that actions taken within a game
have no moral value at all

Cheating in monopoly against the rules
cheating in monopoly bad irl
unless you play with Johns family
they all cheat its part of their game
their family rules
they are all tax collectors and accountants in Johns family
so when they play monopoly they enjoy ‘pretending to be cheats’
if you play monopoly with John’s family and you steal from the bank
this is not cheating irl, so you are not bad irl
but it is still bad in game (that’s why they like it in John’s family, they like
to pretend to be cheats, as they are all tax colectors irl)

Blowing up a space ship ‘in game’ in a game about blowing up space ships no more makes a person ‘bad’
than buying all the properties in monopoly and charging high rents to bust their opponents,
would make a person ‘bad’,
even though behaving in this way irl _might be_ seen in a negative way by some people.

If you play with John’s family, you can steal from the bank etc, if caught you don’t ‘get away with it’, half their fun is from cheating, the other half from catching each other cheating, so it is cheating…
but it is not ‘cheating’ so with John’s family

even to break the rules would not be bad irl.

However…
If you play with John’s family and break the rule ‘don’t be a sore loser’ and
cry and complain when you lose
that would be bad irl, as that is against their rules

You would not be invited back.

This is all very basic stuff it is the difference between play/real

what is a game?

EDIT:

Have a think about this game and its rules
Now try to think what kind of actions a person can commit in _this game_
(forums also part of game, covered by EULA)
that would make them a bad person _irl_
Now look at yourself

Look at the OP
He said he was ‘blown up’ but discovered
‘There are some good people around here’
because the guy who blew him up ‘in game’ was actualy a good guy ‘irl’
and helped him out ‘in game’

To this you said

> [@Mayhaw\_Morgan](#):
>
> If he was such a good guy, why did he destroy you?

Which demonstrates your confusion

He destroyed him _because he was a good guy_

this is normal _in the context of this game_

If we played paintball and you had been saving all month to play
your main treat for yourself
I go with you but spend the whole day knocking the gun out of your hand because
‘shooting is bad’
and ruin your game
who is bad irl, you who shoots paintballs in a game of paintball
or me, ruining your game by not understanding its a game and applying
irl morality to justify ruining your game?
