No!

CCP’s best year was 2007, just before the rise of PLEX. A simple glance at this graph proves it, though you still need to understand what “inflection point” means in signal processing:

> **[EVE-Offline :: EVE-Online Status monitor](https://eve-offline.net/?server=tranquility)**

This is an area of expertise that CCP’s management seems to have completely lost. As a result, starting in 2008, a downward trend gradually began to appear in this signal, its radius of curvature shifting from convex to concave without anyone at CCP noticing, a clear sign of a growing number of defections from disgruntled long-standing players. You wouldn’t believe the number of long-time players who decided to permanently abandon the game between 2008 and 2013, which literally destabilized the geopolitical landscape of New Eden due to the accumulated mistakes made by CCP at the expense of these veteran players…

When an MMO publisher, such as EVE Online, makes decisions that so drastically disrupt an order established by the players themselves, particularly between 2003 and 2007 in the case of EVE Online, then we can no longer afford to talk about a persistent universe. Because to speak of it the way they do is now a blatant lie…

By proceeding in this manner, CCP has shown contempt for an entire generation of players, myself included; CCP has shown contempt for all their efforts. I stayed to observe the game’s evolution, to enjoy what I appreciate most about EVE Online, while participating less and less given CCP’s undeniable decline…

And even this expansion, announced with a massive amount of propaganda and influence-peddling, is far from convincing me otherwise…

No!

It hasn’t been worth it for a long time, despite the undeniable potential of such a game! If only Hilmar could read and hear this…

From my point of view, the now-defunct CCP, aka FENRIS or FEA.RIS or whatever (personally, I preferred CCP), must stop stubbornly pursuing this path. The publisher absolutely must return to its original mindset, that of 2003, if it wants to amaze and amaze us again, particularly by making EVE Frontier a fully persistent version of EVE Online, allowing all players to capitalize on their real-Life, progress based on their in-game effort, much like James Halliday’s Oasis…

The question in 2026 is: is there at least one James Halliday left within what remains of the defunct CCP today?

Because knowing how to invest is one thing, but the most important thing is knowing how to innovate…

A word to the wise…

CCP posted a $76m profit in 2013. They’ve never matched that since. So EVE’s best year may have been 2007…

I like the way the rewards for the mining objectives work, mining real ore that refines to real minerals plus a bit of extra stuff related to the campaign. Capsuleers doing this activity are participating in the real EVE economy unlike in some other events such as the Christmas event where the Ice mining activity just produces event loot and no actual ice products.

Is there any way to hide achievement spam? The achievements are meaningless, the data is useless, none of it matters. I don’t care if someone is a Wayfarer, or if they produced ten cruisers, or if they are “BIG MONEY” cuz they have a billion isk. Can you run these ideas past some kind of player focus group before implementing them, and can you please provide a way to disable garbage ‘content’?

</div>

Yes, PLEX was indeed the trigger for this decline, caused in particular by the successive defections of long-time players. These defections led to boredom and gloom within the affected corporations, which in turn triggered further defections month after month, and so on, rendering the community completely unstable. The remaining players were largely at a loss as to how to restore decent playing conditions, to the point of being forced to resign, one after another, and once again: defections!

It’s so obvious that one wonders how CCP could have dared to dismiss such a catastrophic systemic scenario with a simple wave of the hand, forgetting that, in the eyes of the players too, their time was money! Very few players used alts at the time; everyone focused on their main character, putting in an impressive number of in-game hours. EVE Online was probably the very first time-consuming game in video game history, but oh, was it ever good! It was a time, 2003-2007, when player recruitment was incredibly popular, and new players who joined through it never left because it was so wonderful! It was a time when exploring New Eden and cooperating with other players was the general motto, despite everyone’s diverse and varied playstyles! It always worked perfectly, time-wasting time after time-wasting time, and everyone adored EVE Online!

And when I talk about cooperation, there was inevitably a bit of a black market, with some players using their in-game efforts to help others with very busy real-life schedules! Everyone was happy because everyone benefited in the end!

But all of this happened behind the scenes at CCP! PLEXes arrived, and then, disaster struck! And despite our shouts for CCP to reverse its decision, PLEX gradually became the game’s standard, rising from around 200,000 ISK in 2008 to 5,000,000 ISK today, despite the NEGATIVE OPINIONS of a vast majority of long-time players, who inevitably felt betrayed by a publisher now consumed by greed! Moreover, this was clearly the end of the persistent universe as we knew it!

Personally, I stayed, though sometimes taking very long breaks, while still keeping my skill plans running; I continued to pay my subscription! I never again experienced the lighthearted atmosphere of 2003-2007… What a waste, I swear!

We all knew the gaming industry was capable of disregarding its players. But back then, we all thought EVE Online didn’t fall into that category. Unfortunately, we hadn’t counted on CCP’s opaque business plan.

And you know the rest!

So, what’s left of the 2003-2007 players except for a few rare old fossils like me who sometimes converted/transferred everything from Omega to Alpha, so they could continue to enjoy the game’s best features without being milked dry?

Something to think about…

But personally, I hope CCP will pull themselves together for EVE Frontier, hoping they’ll ask themselves a lot more questions than they have so far, knowing that for players too, time is money!

To FENRIS’ James Halliday: Go for it, man, make EVE Frontier the Oasis of tomorrow!

Reall? Every font must be too big and is cut of even if there is plenty of space.
And now there is a crisp small text with no fade and it blocks the name of the player?
Is the title more important then the name?
Do i REALLY have to have this in THIS window?

You can hide the specific tags like ‘Market Tycoon’, and whatever the others are called. But you can’t hide the achievement score, the number as of yet. You can hide on your own characters only though, not globally.

For hiding the tags, there is an equip/unequip button on character sheet under the achievement part.

Trying to combat RMT (Return to Player) means failing to recognize the true value of the time players spend in-game. And that’s precisely the problem. PLEX wasn’t likely to solve the problem anyway, given the price war it introduced into the very heart of the game—a war that could only worsen the situation, creating a positive feedback loop; another area of expertise that CCP, once again, completely lacks…

No!

The best way to address the RMT phenomenon is 1) to acknowledge that the time players spend in-game has real value, and 2) to monetize that real value. But then, the question of how inevitably arises. Hence the play-to-earn model.

That’s why I remain convinced that the now-defunct CCP has a very strong hand to play with EVE Frontier, precisely because of the blockchain!

And that’s all!

Except that, for the moment, that’s not at all what I’m reading or hearing about it online. In fact, it’s quite the opposite; the big bad wolf FENRIS is likely reserving a portion of the blockchain for itself, which, in my opinion, will seal its final downfall…

</div>

But EVE Frontier already feels like EVE Online 2.0, thanks to the inclusion of ship navigation and astrophysical constraints, etc., something players have repeatedly requested in the past. So, I think that’s very positive. Another positive point is their clearly stated commitment to a truly 100% persistent universe.

Also, they should make another effort towards a 2.1 version, as they are perfectly capable of doing so right now if they put in the effort, particularly by agreeing to monetize player contributions. This would prevent them from having to prematurely abandon their project, as you seem to suspect.

And that’s where the now-defunct CCP desperately needs a James Halliday!

Stop stalling! Go for it! And give us the Oasis instead!

I guess maybe you are discounting MUDs as they were text based and thus not video games, but I know a fair few folk who spent more hours a week MUDding than otherwise awake.

The original Neverwinter Nights came out in 1991 and you had to have AOL to play it. It was the first graphical mmo ( even before Meridian 59 ) and you paid by the minute to play. My dad never let me forget about the phone bills. It was something like $1.99 /minute on top of the AOL dial-up charges.
