Elite Dangerous sounds more up your street.

No content apart from credit accumulation and player interaction instanced and nerfed down to a friends list only.

Esentially your answer to the Goons “We want to wreck your game” is to do the same to the one place where I can CHOOSE to be a rabbit on the run and avoid all those things you are saying you could do without, especially when they come looking for me.

I live in highsec so I guess I am cowardly rabbit trash then. Thats cool. I started off in 0.0 3 weeks in as a newb in stain. In a tiny pvp corp in NPC space. I have been part of larger alliances and sov holding entities. My carrier alt has been involved in titan kills. For a time my schedule did not let me engage in null activities as I would not be an asset with my meager time allocation.

I have subbed for 3 of the 5-6 years Ive been in highsec. Do you not want me to not sub at all if I’m not in null? Do you think CCP would be better off if everyone in highsec left? Not everyone who lives in highsec is there because they are too weak to move on.

Some people just don’t like the size or culture of large organizations. Or how you MUST kowtow in some way to the management of any human run institution or club. Doctrine fits CTA’s ect …are part of giving yourself and your time to another for free or less than free as you are still subbing yourself. I understand the neccesity of things and honestly they are some of the things I personally miss. Not everyone is willing to give themself to another so freely.

Eve makes people risk averse no matter where they live. Its the motto of the game itself! “Don’t fly what you cant afford to lose.” So you always fly in a way that is most cost effective to get the task done. Practically noone would usa an AT frig to light a cyno for a traveling carrier… Risk aversion is not a weakness, its a strength if it does not stop you from doing what you want to do. It tempers your decisions with foresight and helps you plan your moves. Just because something is more dangerous does not make it better in and of itself. (I feel safer in null than in highsec. It took me months to not look at the corp of every neut in system… I still do often tho…)

Back to the main topic. highsec needs attention and the attention it needs is not to be less dangerous… It needs to be more dangerous with more accountability to give interactions depth. The pve content is terrible and soul crushing. Mining is so dull and un-engaging it can be effectively done by one person with a bunch of alts.

At this point I don’t think CCP can really change or want to change the fundamentals of pve interaction much at all. And unfortunately highsec is mostly pve. I will more than like return to null in a bit after the house sale is finalized and electric redone (no freaking grounds on the outlets). The point is I live in highsec now. But why does it NEED to be so bad?

Sorry my speeling and typin sux…

I once had a dream of exploring wormholes looking for people who had ran out of POS fuel and stealing their belongings like IDOCs back in Ultima Online. It encouraged me to learn almost all the ships since you didn’t know what you would find and you cant drive what you haven’t learned.

Then CCP removed POS’s altogether destroying that dream by letting people build stations everywhere. I thought fine I will just join a NS corp eventually and get in the big fights so I can just loot their stations instead.

Then CCP introduced “item safety”, while not only destroying any kind of fun that career future had, made it sound pretty ■■■■■■■ stupid that peoples items are whooooshed away.

Seriously this is ok with people? Completely unbelievable mechanics that make a task worth doing to just a complete chore and honestly good luck explaining that mechanic to anyone new. If it sounds stupid at first it probably is.

After that whats the point of going to NS? Work for some imaginary land? Drive out real far so I can make a little more reward and barely any risk. Honestly CCP killed NS by trying to help it.

As HS goes if 3/4 of your population is doing 1 activity, and its beneath you to add to it because you don’t like it, then look for another job now, your going to need it.

I don’t mind asset safety, BUT it needs to stay in its place.

I have no problem with it existing in HS. I think it makes sense both in a lore prospective and in a game play one. A slightly cheaper rate to store my stuff on a player owned structure (not POS) isn’t worth the loss of all my stuff if the station explodes…
**Especially if it’s NOT MY STATION.**

For lore, within Empire HS, I can easily see having the asset safety as being part of any Empire permit to build a station in their territory.

Outside of Empire HS, I don’t like asset safety. This includes LS. I see the Empires as having less control here, and that should show with the lack of Asset Safety.

In short. Leave Asset Safety in HS, but nix it everywhere else. Though, I do think the asset ‘recovery fee’ should ALWAYS apply and be increased.

The difference in EVE is that there is constantly someone trying to take my book or block my path as I ride or stab me on the basketball court and take my Air Jordans. Without taking these disruptive external factors into account, we do not have an accurate picture of the game.

That happens to be the best part of the content of the game, and the only part that has interesting solutions after a while.

No, I’m referring to the particular belief that highsec deserves a complete pve upgrade (ie lengthening of the pve treadmill) all placed in highsec. Even though, CCP cannot possibly produce such a thing at the rate that the playerbase would consume it and be bored by it, and they couldn’t even keep me from completing it and most of the rest of the highsec content in a few weeks starting from scratch with a new alpha account, without transferring resources to it.

The thing that is wanted (solo game, with access to the group market), is actually only a few weeks long, and all these ideas, only make it a few play sessions longer.

> In order to get you to ride a different rollercoaster or watch a different show or eat a corn dog instead of a hamburger, they give you an incentive. EVE is not different in that respect. It just happens that in EVE, as mentioned before, your ride can come to an abrupt and unexpected end if someone else decides that it’s a small world after all and blows you away.

Which is actually staggeringly rare if you take reasonable precautions. This account is not funded by my old alts, and has done the majority of its isk earning in low/nullsec. Review of my zkill record (which is all losses) indicates a grand total of 1 pve fitted space ship (t1) lost to opposing players, 1 lost to live cargo when it was a few days old, and 1 lost to a serpentis dreadnaught because I was unsubbed when those were patched in, so had to learn the hard way about haven spawns.

> [@](#):
>
> Practically, that means that at least some of the content is going to be inaccessible to at least some of the playerbase at least some of the time. And when you give the players things like interdiction bubbles and jump drives, any bored lot of hooligans can lock down Space Mountain indefinitely, i.e. for all intents and purposes, it’s not in the game. So, you have to go back and reaccount for what is actually accessible to whom before you can say “There’s lots of content.”

I kind of fail to see for example how you keep people out of their own escalations, when ultimately you can use an almost unscannable t3, and you can shoot your wrecks, AND if you were really cockblocked, you’d just go back to your farming source location and get another one to a different location. I was camped for 16 hours a day in our sov system for 3 months on end, it made nil difference to my ability to find the usual content. On the bad days I simply changed from gun probing to well actual probing.

The secret is that these NPCs are scared of you.

And I don’t know what kind of low self-esteem rabbits you’ve met in your life, but the ones I’ve met don’t want to be foxes. They’re happy to be rabbits. It works for them in 99.99999% of their life. There’s just this one game called EVE Online that they tried one time where it didn’t work, but other than that: Rabbits FTW!

I’ve played the rabbit for years. It works just fine. My old account chased down some escalations that went from Vale - 40 jumps in hostile directions. I also lived in a location where every single escalation took the exact same stupid path out of Vale into geminate. 100% of the time, my stuff was at best in society for conscious thought space and more usually in red space.

> As for actual AI in the game, I honestly think the recent additions are a great thing. Now players, especially those who shelter in high sec, can get a taste for how cold and harsh EVE is designed to be. These AI will just kill your ship (and capsule) 100% of the time, just like many players. But I am really curious how players are reacting to it. Maybe CCP has an answer for us floating around somewhere.

I’ll be clear that I’d like them to iterate on the AI and all their recent features, what I don’t want anyone to do is labour under the misbelief that CCP can produce a sustaining themepark experience, or that having one would lead to subscription nirvana.

Everything in eve is changing. Out with the old and in with the new. Missions my bet will get overhauled like everything else. But it will be long term I’m sure, like new interface for missions is key, but the core types wont change in how you do them like, warp gates and but whats inside and how the AI reacts to you should always be different. 🙂

The best fix to a lack of interested players is to make a cool game. That is where CCPs interests and ours intersect. Right? Why are you worrying about subscriptions? Let them worry about it.

All your anecdotal evidence about how you are such a great player isn’t helpful to the masses unless you want to go out and teach them. Given your disdain for them, I doubt that’s the case, so you might as well be telling us about Snow White and The Seven Dwarves or Mulan. They’re just as relevant.

I haven’t suggested any space needs a complete pve upgrade. Nor have I demanded it. All I’ve done is pointed out that there is a considerable amount of PVE should one go look for it. People can have the game they want now, by playing more of the actual game put before them.

They don’t. In fact they have allowed the reverse in, by the addition of skill injectors.

The opinion of dinsdale is that extending highsec content keeps people entertained, occupied and thus retained in the game. I’m of the opinion that the actual length of highsec content is very small, especially now that you can poop sock up some injectors and because lower skilled highly performing ships exist and/or are trivial to acquire now, and because certain older ships have MJDs and can thus cheese out the old traps.

The body of players that actually already have the necessary skill points is also very large. A simple example. Dread pirate scarlet was 40 minutes of entertainment for me (because I didn’t blitz it first time), and after that it displaced one less valuable mission into my reject queue. If it had been less valuable, it would be routinely rejected, therefore it mudflated the game by being better than what was rejected, but its actual entertainment value to me was ~40 minutes + maybe the first blitz run.

L4 missions with their burner augmentations is an example of how its become difficult for CCP, and how they have to gateway a small amount of content with not letting you do what you want. That is why you don’t have a burner agent. If they try layer even more content onto that system, then each type of player gets even less of which ever content it was that they wanted, and the whole edifice will begin to feel broken.

That would appear to be one of the most transparent examples of the logical fallacy “ad hominem” I’ve ever seen.

People get ganked in highsec. The opportunity cost of making less money than some other content exists, and the opportunity cost of being bored, and not challenged, vs the benefits of seeking and finding more entertainment also exists.

Yet again, you have a concept that you don’t have an answer for, and thus have merely attempted to brush it aside with sarcasm. Once you skip past the gatecamps, you are literally in with the krabs and they want you out of their system so they can krab. Their actions are more or less fight or flight.

I’m not worried about it. it is a cool game as it is. I am subscribed to it, and its blog. It is amusing that you are taking up the position championed by a persona that is not subscribed and does not play the game, and utterly loathes the company that makes it, and loathes half of the players too.

Given your disdain for them, I doubt that’s the case, so you might as well be telling us about Snow White and The Seven Dwarves or Mulan. They’re just as relevant.

Relating the experiences of a renter, hardly qualifies as heroic.

I’m currently in cas ccg, an organisation part dedicated to helping new players, and I’m also on in the cas starter corp chat channel. this is a starter corp character.

The only persona I have any particular disdain for is Dinsdale. I don’t even dislike the guys that tried the armor timer on our athanor and blew up my brutix this morning.

OT: Were those “prelude to Dune” books any good? I’ve tried “Legends of Dune” but it was huge disappointment, it’s not the father’s level of writing.

I think what players want with pve and what CCP could get them are two not connected things. There are tons of good ideas on forums how to improve pve, so either CCP don’t have resources or they are focused on other things to do.
