> The Devil is in the details, but I expect safe zones would hurt semi casual players like myself. I mostly do high sec missions and market pvp, along with a little fw. If safe zones mean people can afk mine 23/7, and can autopilot from the major trade hubs worry free, it undercuts the market niches that I prosper at.

It depends how it’s implemented and what rules are put in place to twin it with the present mechanics. It all depends on the devs. EVE isn’t like real life where the rules of the universe cannot be bent. It is a virtual reality made up of codes and pixels. Things can be changed and balanced.

Anyway, a safe space isn’t what I would want. I was simply engaging O.P on her question. I don’t think it would hurt anything if implemented correctly but I don’t necessarily care to see it in game.

No matter how you implement your “safe zone” it gets abused by both sides.

Side A sits inside carefree mining or doing who know what to manufacture ISK without risk.
Side B gate camps your zone on all sides to insure high kill and loot drop rewards.

It is the no win scenario.

Have fun!

It can be implemented so it _doesn’t_ get abused by both sides.

I love the arguments on this forum: “_all in favor of the status quo and stagnation. Nothing is possible unless approved by vets and players of bad faith. The devs cannot code and the game has to stay as it is._” 😅

That’s a strawman.

Just because players think safe zones are a change in the wrong direction does not mean these players are against change in general or in favour of a stagnating game.

They may want _different_ changes, changes that do not involve making EVE safer.

Um….the real ‘bad faith’ is that of going against the entire game design of 22 years to fix an imaginary ‘problem’ that isn’t a problem at all but is part of the how the game was always intended. _Any_ ‘safe space’ in EVE ruins the entire ethos that the game is _all about risk_ and no-one is safe anywhere.

Farmville was invented for those who can’t cope with this. And seriously…EVE highsec is already a place where you have to try quite hard in order to be killed.

I’m not sure but it looks like everyone would be in profit 😆

Why “no win” then?

I don’t care about profit. I want kills.

The thing you are asking is so superflous, that it’s not even worth typing a forum post about. I guess to you it is though, so here we go:

Basically, 1.0 systems are as safe as it gets from the get go.
There are ways how you can make your stay in these systems even more safe.
You can well and truly prevent every feasible way to attack you simply by strategic thinking, fitting and researching the game mechanics.

Also, here are a few shortcomings that the safe zone proposal does not adress:

- System cost price index would, if all inudstry were to actually move into this safe zone, rise so dramatically, that manufacturing would become untenable. You’d end up paying twice the actual market value in taxes for all your goods.
- If all the miners were to huddle up in this system, you would also quickly run out of ore to mine. It would become a rat race to eat up the ressources as fast as possible. You’d be competing with massive botnetworks that operate autonomously. They would be fit for maximum yield, operating even faster because nothing can endanger them.
- Same with any combat sites (if included), botnetworks would be competing for them non-stop. And that is to say nothing of actual players that you’d be competing against as well.
- While protecting inhabitants of the system, all haulers that are in and out going would still remain vulnerable. And in the hypothetical scenario that somehow a ton of highly valueable goods were to be circulating around in this safe zone, the gates to the safe zone would end up being mercilessly camped.

So, if the safe zone would come to pass as the OP probably envisioned (new Jita, convergence point for all miners, universal center of industry) then it would quickly end up becoming an utterly **putrid** shithole so bad, that no player would ever want to be there.

And given that you can, with minimum effort, achieve the equivalent level of safety in so many other systems all over new eden, they don’t have to anyway.
Really, the “serious” question you should be asking, once you have just a very basic handle on how the game works, is: _Why would I need this?_

I also can’t help but roll my eyes at statements like “I just want to chill and relax with my friends man!” and “New players need a breathing space!” - as if every second in high sec is spent being chased from gate to gate, running for dear life because any moment a ganker is going to get a lock on you and obliterate you and everything you ever owned. Are we playing the same game??? Where in New Eden is this the reality?! Please tell me, because I **really** want to go there!

So, to summarize, an incredibly short sighted and lazy proposal that would not work and betray the vision of EVE for no gain whatsoever. Also considering the low percentage of ships that are being destroyed by ganking compared to the total number of ships roaming about, it is hardly a pressing issue, and thus the intentions of this proposal are to be considered highly dubious.

With dangerous regards
-James Fuchs

The starter systems are but it should be more clear to new players that they are.

People need to be aware of one simple fact that applies in Eve:

Agreed, I read somewhere there was a player flying a venture worth over 1 billion ISK in a high sec system. The gankers descended upon it like seagulls in a Mc D’s parking lot.

Anything gets abused, a chair is meant to sit upon, however individuals see fit to use them as a weapon. Meanwhile a yo-yo was designed to be a weapon and is commonly used as a plaything. Let me know how that works.

Neither side A or B can benefit from this, ergo no win.

Have fun!

There was an Ibis carrying 26bn of implants…that was fairly recent. I’d have lent him my 500K EHP fast align Eagle for a share of that.
