Submitted for consideration in the YC 119 New Eden Capsuleer’s Writing Contest. * * * # Figments of Poetry – _by Ché Biko_ ### Web _Entangles me_ _Digitally_ _Sticky_ _I got caught in the Net_ _It’s keeping me from my bed_ ### Comformity _My eyes are open_ _I’m awake_ _But I don’t want_ _to get up yet_ _It’s warm_ _inside the bed_ ### Enlightenment _In the future_ _everyone_ _will be_ _a light_ _and then_ _everyone_ _will be_ _blind_ ### The Darkness of Light _Don’t stare into the sun_ _The look won’t last that long_ _and you’ll see nothing but sun_ _’till unfading darkness comes_ ### Aquaphobia _I’m in a waterfall,_ _but why am I drowning_ _with all this air around me?_ _I guess because it’s hot_ _and even if it’s not_ _the sound of water fills my ears_ _or is it my fears?_ _It doesn’t matter anyway_ _Unless I summon_ _the power of a salmon_ _and swim to the top_ _But I’m not even a fish_ _Like a magnet, I repel_ _organic matter_ ### Oddstridge _Reflections without Introspections_ _Everyone can see but me_ _Everyone is blind but me_ ### Chill _The door to my heart is rarely locked_ _so people can easily open it_ _and come inside_ _I just wish they would close it_ _when they leave again_ _There’s such a draft_ ### S.A.D. (Sorrow and Depression) _You are always near, never far away_ _I think you might be here to stay_ _I think you might be following me around_ _I think you might be part of my shadow on the ground_ _You make me human, maybe even complete_ _I don’t want to fight you_ _I don’t want to lose you_ _I’m kinda getting used to having you around._ _Sometimes I try to escape you_ _You sometimes tire me out_ _I know you so well, you almost seem like an old friend_ _But you’re not the only one, and you’re not the end._ _Green makes you less mean_ _It’s strange that that is true_ _’cause they say your color is blue_ _Does that mean yellow is our fellow?_ _The sun in the sky that makes me forget why to cry?_ _How come your tears are burning in my eyes if they are made out of water?_ ### In Memoriam: Pakhshi’s Star _Another supernova, in the Pakhshi system this time. A massive star collapsed._ _A supernova briefly outshines an entire galaxy. The extremely luminous burst of radiation expels much or all of a star’s material at great velocity, driving a shock wave into the surrounding interstellar medium. Supernovae play a significant role in enriching the interstellar medium with higher mass elements. Furthermore, the expanding shock waves from supernova explosions can trigger the formation of new stars._ _I had only recently discovered this star. I admired his spectrum, and I will miss it._ _I feel the shockwave, but I am grateful for his luminosity, which is present still._ _And I see the interstellar medium being enriched._ _And I see the formation of new stars._ © Ché Biko 119 ---

Having many pieces to judge at once and displayed at the same time makes it difficult. There is emotion and imagery here and I had to isolate individual poems to see it. The subject matter and your emotion are what you should focus on, you have the technique down well. You shine in pieces with subtle feeling that leave a memory of that emotion stronger than the words. ---
