Devblog: Skills On Demand - Changes Coming To The Skill System!

Well, the first question I have to ask about that is: Why did you pay 400% markup to get those books in bulk? Send a DST or blockade runner to a school station.

Jesus, I thought EVE players whining and overreacting about the simplest stuff wasn’t real until I read some of these comments.

No one took your cheese. It’ll be ok.

Btw, fantastic change - thank you.

That’s what I read. Now, if you meant to say the fees you paid to put skillbooks up at 400% markup, that’s something different, but that right there is ‘paying 400% markup fees’.

This change actually touches the cheese for a very, we’ll call them “dedicated” portion of the player base. It directly impacts their chosen money making method of laboriously hauling skill books from 2 jumps away to Jita.

Wait, you think actually going out in the universe and doing something is less engaging than clicking a button on the UI? And you’re on the CSM? Jeez…

And you still haven’t answered why you think this keeps people from going out into space.

I wouldn’t bother with a 30% or 50% markup on skillbooks now, I certainly won’t want whatever markup CCP deems ‘enough’ profit margin. I need 100s of Percentage point markups to make it worth my time, CCP is killing this off, they definitely dont have a 1000% markup for ‘skills on demand’ vs old fashion markups. You must remember that these are ‘core’ books whatever that means and are low profit to begin with and even 100% markup won’t make it worth the time anymore. The real markup market that I deal with is veterans that have plenty to spend on alts and willing to pay a 400% increase in cost to avoid jumping around looking to buy a skillbook and this market WILL DIE.

Come back when you’ve learned to stop straw-manning, cheers.

Again, you’re the one who brought up people staying docked. I’m asking you why you think they would.

So: Why do you think this change keeps people from actually going out in the universe? I mean, you can throw around ‘straw-manning’ all you like, but when you’re the one raising the objection and I’m asking you to support that assertion, that’s not a straw man. That’s you evading a question about your own assertions.

I understand the wording is confusing, i will make a change to the statement to make it clear but im pretty sure you understood what i meant.

If I had, I wouldn’t have asked the question.

Arrendis did understand what you meant, but he is deliberately misinterpreting posts in order to create argument. For example, he is asking me why I think this change keeps people from undocking, when he knows that’s not what I said. Either that, or his reading comprehension is genuinely bad.

this change is just dumb, ccp leave it AS IS it makes people learn to PLAY eve, this is just more casualisation likely in order to sell something new to wales…

I am guessing prices mostly go up. As stated it hasn’t been looked at in 16 years. Likely there will be two prices. What you pay at the University / NPC Station and what you pay in the Character sheet when a ‘Convenience’ fee is factored in.

So far since PA has purchased EvE Online we have seen null SOV fees and SOV tied Navigation structure [formerly POS modules] fuel requirements double or more in cost. Being mostly a Null player I cannot speak for Low and Hi Sec cost changes if any aside from this one. If this is the only one for Hi/Low Sec. It makes sense, its a good move. Piled on top of Null costs, not so much.

Granted the subscription price remains unchanged and FTP is an option. The FTP option being available does not necessarily make a good justification for pricing some out of the game play they enjoy. Me personally, not there yet. The real question is how many more changes like this until I am.

If people are staying docked, they’re not undocking. Is that true or is that not true?

You called this:

Is that true or not true?
You also said:

implying that clicking the button on the UI means they don’t go out in the universe and do something.

So what part of that is something you didn’t say?

This hybrid idea seems a little silly. Either have the courage to delete NPC-sold skillbooks and make them insta-train for ISK, or keep them as is. Getting a balance right where people use the new system and you preserve the gameplay around market trading is going to be near impossible: most people will do one or the other. And this dual training system is going to be more confusing for the newer players that have you have invoked as a reason for this change.

Whatever, this is not going to do much in my opinion. Finding skillbooks isn’t a major issue for veterans nor new players. Ship it and get onto some real new game play.

New players are at a university station. They do not need to move. This takes out steps to learn and understand what it takes to live in EVE. It’s ‘instant gratification L1’ and more will come.

The mechanic mostly exists in game already anyway, all that is needed really is to auto find the required skill books and then remote inject them.

There is far more important and useful QoL changes that are needed. This is a non issue that does not need fixing.

You’re right, it’s not a rush.

However that doesnt mean making it a little more intuitive to get ahold of and train skills is a bad thing. Especially when it frees up more time to do the things you enjoy.

Hell today alone it took me 10 minutes to purchase and pick up a skill book because I hadn’t realized I purchased it with corp funds and it was in my Corp hanger.

Not a huge deal, but it still wouldve saved me time, and the hassle of trying to figure out where the skill book went after confirming twice the funds were removed.

It’s a QOL improvement.

Will this include skills like triglavin ships and guns?

No, those can’t be gotten from NPC school stations. Only from drops.
