The reason coffee is addictive is not that it has caffeine in it, but what happens to the caffeine as it cooks. As the been is being cooked into solution with water and the container holding it, it breaks apart into other chemicals. The chemical formula for standard coffee (caffeine) is C8H10N4O2. When the heat reaches a certain point, some of the atoms break away to come into solution with other materials in the pot. You have the water, adding in Hydrogen, the heat, making the oxygen into bubbles, and the glass, which infuses with some of the nitrogen before the pot is removed (then it just floats into the atmosphere. Some of the plastics in the maker also drop traces of carbon into the boiling mixtures. What you are left with in you mug is a mix of Water, some Caffeine, miscellaneous debris, and C10H15N, better known as Methamphetamine. Now you know how it gets you up and moving and stays so addictive
