Smart Bombs Seem Kind of Dumb

Well, I stand corrected.

Don’t warp direct gate-to-gate, even in a blockade runner folks.

I’ve been lucky and my alt hasn’t been killed in hers, but clearly that’s a limited dataset to go off.

Whatever happened to that story of that self proclaimed ‘genius’ on the forums who was tricked into sitting in HiSec with smart bombs running, and then a whole bunch of people in pods suicide-warped to him and bottomed out his security standings. That was a fantastic Eve story.

Oh oh I was there.

That was orchestrated by Zedrik Cayne of IEEE.

Sadly, what scant records I retain of those days neglect to mention the baddy’s name.

But it wasnt Joe.

That is such a very EVE story, and a good example of why I love this game.

Wait, what was he even smart bombs for? A gate camp? Ratting?

This is why when a BS smart bomb fleet forms, they max fit resists for the damage type they are using. They can get well above 90% resist iirc.

Then they also have remote reps and/or rep drones for after wiping out a noob in a shuttle just trying to get back home… :sob:

L2play.

I mean, wouldn’t the term “bombs” be better given how they work?

Multidirectional Energy Pulse would work better…

–Gadget goes boom

Its quite a long story involving copious amounts of deception and ending with a load of Pods willingly popping themselves to teach some baddy a lesson.

I wish i still had links to it, someone even frapsed it so there was a video of the event.
Will try to recount it, but my memory may be wrong about some things, so please if anyone can, correct me. (this will be fairly simple retelling).

The Cast (cant remember some of the names)
Zedrik Cayne
The Baddy
The Trixter

Zedrik and Baddy were involved in ongoing flame wars on the forums and likely in game. I expect there was a backstory here too.

Trixter made contact with Baddy, and told him that he was going to have a 1v1 with Zedrik, and that he had figured out where Zedrik’s safe sport bookmark was, where he would warp his pod off to if he lost the 1v1.
All Baddy had to do was wait at the spot and activate Smart(Derp)Bombs when Trixter said the codeword in local. The plan would be that Zedrik warped off in pod with his expensive implants, straight into Baddy’s waiting arms and POP!

HOWEVER, Trixter had contacted Zedrik with all this, and had come up with a plan that was simple, yet oh so devious.

Instead of Zedrik’s pod arriving at the secret location, a whole group of volunteers warped their pods to the bookmark instead, causing the Baddy to take a SecStatus hit for each and every one that popped on his Smart(Derp)Bomb.

Hilarity ensued, the Baddy was banished from HiSec due to being wanted by the authorities for popping so many pods.

…and that is why you don’t use Smart Bombs kiddies.

Unless you live in a farming community…

I mean we also have javelin as long range for missiles. Because you know, consistency

Ccp didn’t have a problem with making things as literal and unimaginative as possible during tirecide

And it continues in that fashion

It would have been fine if they didn’t name everything the Damn same making searching a nightmare.

Rather than searching adapt. And being able to pull up adaptive shield hardeners I now have to search multispectrum shield

Tbh I despise their names for nearly every module.

I believe this is the link/story you are looking for:

It’s a great EVE story.

Thank you!!!
Going to enjoy watching that again.

I’m annoyed by the fact that Javelin is the short range ammo for railguns, while spike is the long range variant.

The way I remember it is that javelins are more massive and so move slower but are more devastating, while spikes are less massive and so move faster but are less devastating.

Don’t think too hard about that one and you’ll be good. Also, I remember blaster ammo purely thanks to Black Sabbath’s Into the Void.
