So... CCP Lost Money Again in 2024

That would only happen assuming they are a major employer of the country. Knowing the population of Iceland is 400K and they only employ an average of 400. This is 0.1% and nowhere near the employment numbers needed for such a bailout. The tourism industry alone employs 34,400 people. The average annual wage in Iceland is 850,000 ISK and they are currently running about 80 to 85% employment rate.

Have fun!

This, pretty much. CCP’s #1 asset is the EVE setting and its rich lore that has evolved over two decades. The more diversely they can productize that setting, the more CCP stand to profit (and the longer they’ll survive as a company). If they ignore other opportunities and focus only on the current MMO product, they will eventually die off along with their barely growing playerbase.

EVE the MMO appeals to a certain niche of gamer, but EVE the setting can be repackaged into other games and properties that may appeal to wider audiences (like mobile gamers, FPS players, and survival game crypto enthusiasts). If there’s cross-pollination between those silos, all the better (but it’s not strictly necessary). I think that’s what some EVE players don’t understand. Those other “EVE” games aren’t necessarily for you. They’re largely for people who wouldn’t play EVE in the first place.

CEOs usually get terminated for much less… HEY GUYS. NFTs!! No.. wait, let’s do another shooter that we’ll tie into the main game again, that went so well last time.

Actually… what we really need is a second spaceship game, cannibalizing the players from our core game, but we’ll be as ambiguous as possible and pretend the idea of a UI isn’t necessary… while using 80’s arcade style graphics. AND we make it BLOCKCHAIN!!!

Let’s also destroy the resource and production chains in our main game to make it literally unplayable. Why would we want people building ships, mods and ammo in a game based around destroying other people’s ships with ammo?? That’s just crazy.

I just can’t imagine why CCP loses money year after year.

Let’s try and leave politics out of this…

It is not politics when mentioning a business deal with the government. That is keeping the aforementioned companies in business and is benefiting the owner.

That’s a carebear attitude. Eve is all about taking Risks.

When are you gonna take a risk?

Come mine in an 0.5 (or at least an 0.7).

The company is worth about $425 million and is now owned by Pearl Abyss which is worth between $540 million and $784 million depending on the source. Eve isn’t dead yet.

Lets apply the … logic of some people in this thread to Larian before they released BG3, or any other game company developing games.

“Man, their financials SUCK, they’re burning money and might even have to borrow some or use cash from other ventures they own!”.

This is the level of clowning we’re talking about.
