Solo Orca mining efficiency?

I know solo mining in an Orca is less efficient than mining in an exhumer. I tried to search to find out just how less efficient they are but everything is several years old and pre mining ship overhaul. Does anyone know where there is something more recent that works through the math?

Thanks

PyFa. Build your fit, check the yield. Calculate the profit.

Hint, it really sucks. For a good reason, nobody wants afk droneminers in the belts. You will be ganked long before you paid for the ship anyway.

Orca

×5 = 28.5m³/s . With T2 it’s even less

(with siege and 3 drone rigs)

it gives an effect of

image

so 100/(100-46.5) = +86.91% yield to non-drone miners

Mack

with only 2 T2 laser upgrades

and

so without orca bonus : 2×17.1+5×1.1 = 39.7m³ = orca +39.3%

with orca boosts it’s 2×17.1×100/(100-46.5) +5×1.1 = 69.4 m³/s = orca +143.6%

Thanks for the replies. I’ll stick with my exhumer!

The reason why people use orcas to mine isn’t because of their yield. It’s because they’re relatively hard to gank and have a massive ore hold. They’re optimizing for effort, not yield.

If you factor in the industrial core timer/duration (2:30) and the risk it adds, because they’re such an attractive target for empire and nullsec gankers, even if it was better it still wouldn’t be worth using an orca. When moon ore prices went into the toilet I stopped using mine. Over time it’s more profitable to not use an orca when you factor in the losses, at least in areas where I mine (nullsec currently).

it’s better to use a porpoise for the command bonuses and a DST to empty the barges than to use compression after all is said and done, unless you have a fleet to protect the orca.

I don’t bother with r16 or lower moons any more. I don’t know if r32 would even be worth it. We don’t have those in our system.
Ark and mercoxit are much better for time vs risk vs reward and you can compress ark with a porpoise.

Nah, not if he finds a good spot off the beaten path. Where I mine ice, it’s common to see 2-4 Orcas at a time. It’s rare that gankers come by. The one time they did, they only took out the Hulks and Mackinaws because they weren’t strong enough for Skiffs and Orcas. Just don’t mine around Jita.

High Sec isn’t near as dangerous as people claim it is. I don’t know why people insist that you’ll lose your ship every single time you undock in high sec. I’ve been mining in High Sec in just about every empire and I’ve flown my skiff from 1.0 to 0.5 many times. I’ve only met bumpers twice and suicide cults once. I still have the exact same skiff. There are only a handful of systems that are actually dangerous.

Those diamond NPCs that roam highsec are more dangerous then anything SOV null has to offer, though.

1-2 years ago it was worthwile, then it got nerfed and since then you will not get enough isk back to make the time spent worthwile.

Thats not my point. Of course you can use Orcas to boost a fleet and as long as you are halfway active and use them for Ice mining, you’d be fine (mostly).

However if the plan is to move an Orca to a belt, assign each Mining Drone to one of the bigger roids and go AFK for 4 hours, then sooner or later someone will notice, and in addition to getting loot, punishing AFK players is one of the gankers most loved activity. And unfortunately, the reward for this drone-mining income is that low that I doubt it can re-finance the ship before its getting blown up.
