To compare, or not to compare

I recall the original compare tool being easy to use, but CCP in their wisdom changed something that was not broken and erm… broke it. really perplexed as to why this has not been looked at since it was changed.

1: Previously we were able to remove/hide info that was the same. For example if rate of fire bonus was 5% for all options we could hide that info to save on screen clutter. Now we cannot seem to do that

2: when you move to horizontal view, the list extends beyond the right of the screen (and I have a 27” screen), from what I can tell you cannot scroll horizontally

3: in vertical mode you cannot sort the information from best/worst or highest/lowest

4: in the bottom right, the active filter doesn’t seem to do anything. The click registers but no filter options show

Enough AI sh*t already…

why did you even bother responding? you offer zero value with what you say, just go into your corner and sulk like a child.

Regardless, the issue is there, the compare tool is not as good as it used to be and is broken in the ways listed

Why do you care about how people respond to a post you neither wrote nor read yourself?

Why don’t you just use pyfa for your module comparison needs instead?

Also CCP doesn’t exist anymore.

The option is in game to compare items, it is easy… well it was easy. just to say use PYFA is a cop out i think. May as well say use PYFA because there are issue with the ingame fitting options, or use dotlan because its better than the ingame map… (wait, that one is true).

Someone makes the game, to say CCP doesn’t exist any more is kinda irrelevant to the request.. and petty

I am surprised this is getting so much friction… is it that much of an issue. Compare tool used to work, they changed it, it no longer works, please can it be fixed, that is the long and short of it

It shouldn’t be a case of here is X issue, so use third party tool Y, when the feature should be able to be used properly in game.

you knowing nothing about what i did with this post

Valid thing, but you came to the forums to discuss it with other players instead. No dev will pick up any bug report here.

That would be the “friction” that you experience. People give their opinion and suggest alternatives - exactly because we are not from FC and you are talking to us and not FC.

The only place in the forums where that -might- happen (and also is frequently not) is the known issues thread for the current expansion in the EVE information portal section.

Instead you either should do a ticket in the support section of the website if you need and prefer interaction or fire a bug report from the launcher - both also reachable by pressing F12 ingame or go through your neocom to “EVE help”.

Finally you are right that someone makes the game. I prefer to call them how they are called and not use outdated names that newer players might not even know.

And if you find the time you could also maybe correct the title of this thread. It is very irritating to read: “To compare, or not (bring able to easily”. So that would be a bug report to you.

So true and even worse is try to view info on a hull class, makes the whole experience worse.

I had not noticed the subject, altered that, it was supposed to be a bit of humour . Valid point you make there re the bug report, ill do that.

I agree that the new compare window is much worse and less usable than the old one.

It’s yet another example of how UI changes in this game often are “if it isn’t broken, break it”.

A problem with discussing such feedback on the forum by matching the style of AI is that it nearly made me skip your valid point as well.

Please just write it yourself, there’s enough AI garbage spammed already that you don’t have to make your post look the same.

The irony of it is that they do have to write the ‘‘instructions’’ for the Artificial Idiot to vomit out that garbage for them. So, they have to go to a special site/program, talk to that Artificial Idiot, make corrections to what it comes up with and then copy it, come over here and paste it. And that process is easier than stringing together a few sentences oneself?

I really have no respect for those who can take the time to ‘‘communicate’’ with a computer program, but not with an actual human being.

Hello, Vartan. I haven’t really had any problem using the Compare Tool. I read your post and although I can see where you’re coming from, the tool does a good enough job for what it is. It is functional.

It may be functional, but it is less functional than it used to be.

Recently it was rebuilt and downgraded by removal of a few very useful capabilities for no apparent reason.

Hand-picking the columns I wish to compare is what I always used before for quick and clean comparisons and screenshots, but they removed this.

Fine, I put my thoughts into an AI to round out what i wanted to say, it seemed to read well, so i pasted it.

However seeing as the main issue with this post from what i can tell is not the subject matter but the way it is presented, i have re-wrote the original post.

I understand it can be frustrating. EVE is the first game I play that has so many changes brought to it so often. Not saying it’s good or bad but I think most people prefer stability and familiarity.

There is a compare tool in this game? Played for 3.5 years and still learning new aspects. Next thing you will be telling me, there is a button to win the game. Now I have to go look at the game…

Have fun!

ok might have seen this window before and never used it.

Seems to work ok.

The problem is that it works ‘ok’ when it used to work well.

I miss the ability to filter by attribute.

It’s been there at least since December 2009 when I started playing. But I rarely used even the previous version of it. None of the ready-made compare tools are good. I just open the info windows and do it myself. Don’t really see the point for this tool, but that’s me.

Apart from that arbitrary ship comparing which i don’t understand why one would do that anyway, i prefer to just have the complete list of an item/ship type and its variations at once as given in pyfa.
