It is certainly one of the goofier things about the game. I think CCP likes it because it incentivizes PVP ship losses.

Check out this guys guide. The TFI and his explanation of Q-clicking is completely legit. It is a fun active mission running ship that takes actual skill to pilot, but it will crush certain missions if you count your missile usage and transversal.
