Weird Pauses After Moving Home Directory to an External Drive

Not sure if this belongs here or in “Issues Workarounds Localization”. Anyway, I have a M2 Pro Mini with the 512GB internal SSD. I moved my Home Directory to an external NVMe SSD in a TB3/4 enclosure. Now the game is mostly unplayable due to frequent, but seemingly random, pauses. My hunch is that is has something to do with the cache being kept in “~/Library/Application Support” instead of “~/Library/Caches” or “/Library/Cache”, ‘/var/tmp’, etc. where it should be.

I was looking to move it to one of the proper cache/tmp directories on the internal drive, but there’s no way to move the cache via the UI. Is this something that can be done by editing a .plist, .ini, etc.?
