What a BETTER PVP Fest could have been

The trace of the filament can still be scanned down and camped. So the event would take place in the sandbox, not out of it.

HAHAHAHAHAHA….

Wait…..you actually MEAN that?

Well…that is sad……propaganda believing instead of self-thinking kind of sad…..

While this works for PvE filaments where people generally try to stay alive and have rather high chances of returning to the trace, this argument is much weaker for PvP filaments.

At least half the PvP filaments won’t have a ship return, completely wasting the time of anyone involved in such ‘sandbox PvP’.

One way this could be fixed is if the game had a dedicated PvP filament system outside which such PvP filaments simply cannot be activated. Then you’re guaranteed to at least see the victor return to the sandbox after a fight. Maybe some new system in or connected to Pochven would make sense thematically.

Yea perhaps that could be a solution, but it must also be said that most of the Proving Ground events were restricted to T2 modules, some even to meta 4 or meta 0. So its not really worth hunting for them.

So whats your opinion on that? Would the return of the Proving Grounds/Old Arena have been a better implementation for this kind of event?

I don’t know about the old arena was, but using the proving grounds/trig filaments for such a competition would still be problematic because people could find ways to rig the outcomes of specific battles and there would still be an element of grind (disadvantaging people who could, say, only play at the weekend).

I enjoyed the recent event and wouldn’t be unhappy to see it repeated (combat-pvp players get enough goodies from events, so it’s fine to have an event for organisational and attritional players now and again), but to answer the question:

To have a good “who is the best at combat-pvp” event, I’d want to see it run on the lines of the alliance tournament, with each human registering their pilot(s) and there being a schedule and a set number of rounds. There could be various categories for ship class and multibox limit. I’m sure that people would watch such a thing on Twitch.

But OP linked a post refering to rules for the Trig filaments, alt farming in them was not allowed. Also, it would be quite hard to do that as you are not guaranteed to meet your alt when you queue against other players as well.

There are your own alts and there are friendly corporation/alliance members, who draws the line and how do they draw it?

Also, even with no line, people who send in alts to the filament set-up can fight properly if they meet an actual opponent or gift a point to the ‘correct’ pilot if they meet an alt or a friend. The situation is one where the outcomes of using the filaments are either good (fight yourself, guaranteed win) or neutral (normal fight) - never bad (guaranteed loss).

Furthermore, even without considering alts/friends, simply scoring points for wins with unlimited attempts favours the people with time on their hands - someone playing for 120 filaments with a 10% win rate will finish ahead of someone playing for 10 filaments with a 100% win rate, but are they really stellar PvP players?

There could also be fairness issues with the same pilots meeting each other over and over, even if they’re competing hard.

There’s never going to be a perfect solution (an AT style competition favours those who can be online at the scheduled time), so maybe there’s room to cycle through different styles of PvP festivals if this is going to be a repeating event.
