With the PVP Fest event almost completed, looking at the leaderboard, its mostly people that kill their own alts, which ruins the fun for those that look for “real” PVP.
It is also a bit weird that they even encourage the killing of own characters to farm the top spots in the leaderboard and mention this in the official announcement of the event. This makes absolutely no sense. It would have made sense to discourage this behaviour and to exclude people that farm their own alts from the competition.

There is a feature that would have in my opinion been much better for the PVP Fest event. The Proving Grounds (or alternatively a 2nd gate in the Abyss). In the Proving Grounds, you queue up against other people, so that it is not guaranteed that you match with your alts, and if the format requires a bit more expensive ships like Battlecruisers, then this would have even more discouraged the alt farming thing. Plus Proving Grounds had a policy that prohibited the farming of alts: Proving Grounds Gameplay Policy Update
So whats your opinion on that? Would the return of the Proving Grounds/Old Arena have been a better implementation for this kind of event?
It was made by certain people for certain players with 100’s of Trillions in the bank that can destroy every ship in the game without worry.
A player with only a few Bill in the bank would soon run out of Isk.
This was never a " fair" contest, I’m guessing that maybe 1 in a 1000 could hope to compete in this with only a slack handfull standing a realistic chance even though they could easily spend more than what’s on offer as a prize.
It’s like a FTP player in a gatcha game hoping to compete against the Whales and Krakens who spend tens and hundreds of thousands of $.
Raid Shadow Legends has players with accounts where they have spent over a $mil.
I’m somebody who is almost certainly going to get PLEX for doing exactly this, and I just want to say this is a stupid contest with terrible rules, and I have no idea why CCP would openly encourage players to do this.
I think this event shows that any form of sponsored PvP in a full loot PvP game is going to get gamed and abused through cooperative play and alts if the rewards are high enough.
This is the case in the current event, but this also was the case in the proving grounds. About Proving Grounds I recall complaints about collusion, coordination of queues and other strategies employed by the few people who played it a lot, while most EVE players ignored it.
I think EVE does far better as a full loot PvP open world in which PvP happens naturally instead of trying to force PvP somehow through events like these or through Proving Grounds.
I think most of us (besides the people who had fun gaming this system) agree that the current PvP fest is not a good event.
No one at CCP wanted to maintain the database for Proving Grounds, so they removed it.
As much as you liked it, it wasn’t worth it to them, and they’re the ones with the final decision making power. Your power extends to voting with your wallet. Until you get a critical mass of players ending their subscriptions over a useless mechanic, CCP doesn’t care what any of us say.
I agree the event was badly implemented, was very disappointed about this Event. I know that stuff like alt farming and so on is kinda part of EVE, but for this kind of events it makes no sense, even more when CCP actively encourages it.
Therefore I can only agree that the Proving Grounds should be returned.
Why is then the Leaderboard of the Proving Grounds still ingame?
Alt farming is one thing but the top leaders are recycling those alt slots which is another thing entirely. I mean seriously, PvP means player vs player, not player vs alt and the recyclingof alt slots (terminating the slot then creating a new character) and being awarded 80b for it is just daft.
For undisclosed reasons? CSM is the null blobs and only them….there are no ‘independent candidates’….. and if the nullblobs have anything than it’s money and disposable ships because they influence ccp via CSM to never stop pampering them like spoiled brats….. They are not interestsed what is ‘Best for the game’ their single interest is to keep the status quo for THEM forever…ANY change suggestion that would not benefit null alone was battered down and rejected by them…CCP does what they want and nothing else.
