8 Golden Rules for EVE Online

CCP doesn’t want us to know this number. The CSM might have some idea.

Wooo. Yeah. So many EVE players get caught up in an endless grind. EVE is not a job, and arguably, flying expensive stuff makes you a target for the types of fights you often don’t want. At all. It can be fun.

Maybe.

Maybe is a good word in EVE.

Maybe you are not as good as you think. Maybe you’d be better if you had spent more time dying in t1 frigates after all. :^)

F you and your survival sh*t. You are out to prey on innocents and you do it with glee.

What is an “innocent”? The dudes that deplete all of the natural resources of a system as fast as their army of smoke-billowing strip miners can lock all the asteroids?

Every rule stated is reflective of real life. Just sayin.

So I consent to getting assaulted whenever I drive out of my garage?

I am guessing the T2 mod represented as “neither cheaper nor better” is the best module in the game, the almighty 5MN Microwarpdrive II.

You consent to the fact that there’s weird people on the street and you may be in danger every second. When police is coming, the assault uses to be already over or will soon be stopped. Same story, don’t forget your insurance and buckle up!

You would do well to not confuse real life and this game.

Interesting to read all the comments on this thread.

Its been a long time since last playing Eve and just got back after a few years away. Built this new toon so I could relearn the basics.

So in essence I agree with almost everything everyone has said bearing in mind the different perspective people have of the game and RL.

Some comments are especially amusing such as comments about carebears/builders/farmers call us what you will (on a side note, bring back the un-nerffed Hulk and I’ll show you a real carebare in action). If it weren’t for us the game would not have evolved in such a spectacular way, that equally applies to everyone else who participates. We need the PvP/E’s just as much as they need us. Neither can thrive without the other in this game.

The other comments that made me laugh were about AP? Is there autopilot ability in this game when flying?

CRUMBS better go try that out. Just goes to show that even an old hand can learn something new

To all the new players out there who have read even some of this thread, its deffo worth looking at what you can already do and fitting ships accordingly. It’s also true there is no such thing as a safe place in Eve.

There are many horror stories out there such as the person who was moving to low sec. He flew a large indy with all his stuff in it and lost the lot. This was years ago and he’d spent a great deal of hard earned RL cash on the game. So the moral of this story is the truism “If you can’t afford to lose it don’t do it”, especially if it has cost you RL money.

Personally I think he was stupid to try flying a freighter to low sec without support.

Enjoy the void, there are some fabulous experiences out there for you

I always find it sad how many long time players give up on helping the Eve community grow and embrace apathy instead.

Encouraging scamming and griefing will never result in a positive outcome within the community, so why do it? If you don’t want Eve to grow, why are you here? Scammers and griefers already spend plenty of time using kindergarten logic to justify their actions, they don’t need or deserve your help, the people getting scammed do.

And blowing up somebody else’s ship is bullying and wrong, too? Think of how the victim feels when you treat someone that way :frowning: :sob:

Again, if you don’t want Eve to grow, why play at all?

So we should all hold hands and sing something uplifting?

Put the kindergarten logic aside, and actually consider the question. Do you want the game to grow? If not, why play? If so, why act like this?

Your line of reasoning is completely contrary to the entire premise of the game. You want us all to be friends, but that is not compatible with the Eve universe.

Nope, nobody said friends except you. I said that encouraging scamming and griefing is contradictory to any claims that you wish the game to grow. Come on, reading comprehension.

You have a complete non sequitur there.

I’m not sure why you are conflating “scamming” with “griefing” and both of those with “growth” of Eve.

Eve is a great game because of the freedom it allows. That includes the ability to trick, cheat, extort, steal and general explode other players. Trying to remove those aspects of the game isn’t going to make it more popular - it will just make it more boring.

Actual “griefing” is against the rules and CCP has shown they are very willing to enforce those rules. No one wants that.

What isn’t against the rules is all the stuff in the OP:

This is all great advice to help new players adjust to the game. These are the things that helped Eve grow, and things were even more cut-throat back in the day when Eve was younger and the game growing fast. I mean, who wouldn’t want to play this game after reading the 8 Golden Rules?

You can claim some kind of libertarian high ground saying that anything goes, in reality people acting like douchebags only serve to drive away players/customers.
