About those arenas people wanted

It’s doomed from the start, like every other game, a few teams will dominate and everyone else will make excuses and stop.

CCP will cater to the excuses, nerfing this and that and ultimately there still won’t be mass participation because the players who want this just think they will lose less than in low/null/wh.

i disagree
me and my friend will use 50 million ± cruisers , i bet we will face a LOT of blinged dudes and loose , BUT , it takes one noob with abyssal/purple stuff to pay 20+ tries , so I’m all up to let them bling at will , maybe we can have fun and score some sweet loot
i hope this is not for ever but I’m pumped to try , the 2x2 tier 1 cruisers will be my favorite since i don’t have a team to join just one friend or 2
if its fun i will ask some amarr militia guys to join to , i bet they will want to form some teams to pew

Completely wrong. The demand for this comes from the pvpers who can’t handle this being a single server game, and think the opponent bringing more people to a fight is broken.

Why would those people play EVE to begin with? Why would they choose the one functional single-shard game out there if they don’t want to play on a single shard? There are hundreds of games out there that offer that kind of experience with even more polished mechanics than EVE does. Team-based battle royales, MOBAs, survival games, et cetera.

B: “NO! EVE IS DYING FOR THAT REASON”

Hilarious.

I don’t personally see the point in content X. Remove content X as it goes against my perceived notions of fun.

If you do not then the game servers will fail, Eve will die, the sky will fall and blah blah blah

That what is so fked up about this. These people could play their style anywhere but they selfishly come here to screw up this game and turn it into one of those games.

A sandbox design is more than perception. Way to show how little you know.

Walk me through your thought process, please

If only there was a game out there about spaceships with eve art style and mechanics, that is not “one functional single shard game out there”…

Spoiler alert there is none, market for spaceship games is barren with only handfull of games total and even less actually good ones, and there is more than just single-shardness that makes eve unique from the rest.

Oh which is also why argument “just go play WoW” is simply stupid. If one wanted to play fantasy game about knights spellcasters and stuff they would never come to spaceship game in the first place.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am NOT saying that EvE requires those instanced mechanics and things, I am just saying that this argument against people wanting them is simply stupid.

Years ago, I thought an arena would be a great idea for EVE. This was before I went and actually joined corps doing pvp and roamed in low-sec.

Now I think it’s a bad idea.

I did Tusker pvp events. Those were a blast. They had structure but of course anyone could break the rules and the Tuskers had to protect the event from both participants and pirates. That is the spirit of EVE.

The Spirit of EVE is that is it player driven.

Why not create a system to encourage more corps and alliances to hold such events? Allow for player built and owned arenas? Is it not possible to try something that works with the base mechanics of a sandbox that’s PLAYER DRIVEN?

The minute CCP creates this structure, it is instantly rigid. You can modify, you can add different arena types, betting, whatever. It is a THEME PARK feature. Hopefully they turn it over to the players to build and manage…

TO BE FAIR
I did put together a Cost / Benefit from having the arenas in the game (it’s an occupational hazard). I welcome comments.

CCP you listen to the players. You can do better.
Anyway:

Benefit

  1. Allows for theory crafting.
  2. Easier entry into pvp for noobs or people who suck at it in general.
  3. Potential to add more pvp to EVE.
  4. Will draw new players to the game.
  5. Possible increased player retention.
  6. Allows for additional money sink.

Cost

  1. Fear that more instancing coming for other aspects of the game. Big bad!!!
  2. Breaks from the spirit of EVE – Not player driven.
  3. Can potentially detract from other pvp in game.
  4. Can stagnate due to ship twinking – but hey, that’s EVE.
  5. It feels like an experiment for EVE Echos?
  6. It’s a theme park feature.

Easier Entry to PVP - No way. You will be going up against teams with the best implants, drugs, and abyssal mods. Most of the “black swan” risks that make Eve infamous will not be an issue in the arena, so people will min-max to the point that new entrants will not even have time to figure out what happened.

That is a fair fact. Agree.
Better statement might be: Its easier to find the fight and its the closest to being “fair”.
Its why I added twinking in Costs (#4)

Anyone want to form a team with me? Big baller setups with mid/high-grade implants (you can downgrade delta and epsilon), faction/deadspace gear, mutaplasmids out the ass. Get mom’s credit card ready and be on standby.

Man, you’re going to be so disappointed when you find out I’m a middle-aged Russian dude with a hairy back.

I guess I could turn on a voice filter and refer to you as “onii-chan” if it makes it any better?

The implants aren’t the problem - it is the weeks of practice on Sisi, 14 hour days, just to get ready. The competition for those skins is going to be intense.

you are cool
Russian hairy dude or not

i havent seen anything that limits the number of people you can get into any 1 site, just something on restriction to classes.

I give it not even a week before a group finds out how to game it and get multiple people into 1 site and set dominance, like how in abyssals people were suicide empty caracals for 1 good spawn to make it all worth it.

I have a fresh “battle bucket” and I sure as hell want to get my money’s worth out of it. Let’s do this. Final destination.
