Amarr SKINR set. Help me with advice

Hi. I am creating Amarr SKINR set. Should I continue, or is it just meh? Need some customer evidence before going hard into production.

All in all I just really love Amarr aesthetics, that`s why I am starting with it. If you think there are some ships that NEED to be reworked into Amarr theme, feel free to comment on that as well.

  • meh
  • fine
  • looks good
  • make another ships, those are strange

I’ve been developing and selling a lot of skins since the launch of the feature, so here’s my feedback and some of my experience

First of all, you can’t know for certain how the market will react to a specific design, but you can look at other designs and try to fill the gap. For example, if some ship has only dark skins on Paragon Hub, it’s worth trying to offer a light one. That’s my main philosophy. Maybe I’m wrong, but it worked for me so far.

In theory, it’s good to base your design on something recognizable, in this case it’s Amarr Empire. I have created and sold many designs based on both in-game and out of the game things (Game of Thrones, The Expanse, The Boys, Altered Carbon,…), but I’ve also noticed that abstract designs are selling just as good. Of course, I have a couple of design that failed completely and I’m stuck with a stock that no one wants to buy. Expect that to happen as well, it’s just a part of the design business.

The best way to test the market is to build the skins and offer them. If you are not sure whether it will sell or not, it’s best to do it when CCP has a production cost discount. Winter Nexus had 50% off on PLEX cost for building skins. I suspect that the next discount might be around Capsuleer day (the 15th of April).

Oh… and take a look at this thread: šŸ‘ļøšŸ‘ļø SKINR / SKIN design showcase - show off the ones that you like

Regarding design that you’ve posted, here’s my opinion (only my personal opinion that might not be relevant and might not reflect how the market would react  ): Dominix and Minokawa hit the spot for me. When I look at them, I can say ā€œYeah… That’s Amarrā€œ. The other two - not so much. My thoughts are that some ships are simply not made to have Amarr design, but that’s just me.

Some ships turn out looking good and Amarrian when all you do is put matte white in the base layer, gold on the detail layer, and glossy black on the tech layer, but many don’t. In those cases you can play with stripes and the orbit feature to try and give them gold trim manually. The vedmak is an example of a hull that looks ever so much better with a manually added gold trim on the sides of the central piece and a manually added ā€œbulkheadā€ to give the armour some volume on the side pieces.

That Minokawa looks very nice. Nidhoggur though – I wouldn’t say it’s got an Amarrian aesthetic if that’s what you were going for. Bronze isn’t quite in their arsenal color-wise.

Thank you for the link and your opinion! By any chance, do you have any thoughts on what ships to design first? Meaning - there are ships with lots of skins and not so much, wich one is better to pick first? Or is it still - just make it and see how market`ll respond?

I’m either going with ships that have large numbers of regular users (bigger potential market) or if an inspiration hits me for a specific hull. I think Dominix would be a good start.

Oh… and so far I didn’t have any luck selling capital skins, so you might want to consider entering that market later when you have a bit more personal experience with the market. I don’t know if my designs are bad or people just don’t buy capital skins (ex. they build them themselves), but they are not selling.

Edit: Of course, if some ship has only like 4-5 skins offered, it might be worth a shot to try.
