I fancy building one, But after seeing the cost vs the benefits…

Mine is they are probably never going to be used.

They will be used, pretty handy for med-large sized fleets.
I think the general consensus is that carriers and fighters are not really great at present.

So they’re universally loved?
There are definitely some folks in high security space who want to fly them.
I dunno about universally, I lot of players can’t fly them.
But they have niches which only they fill, and are thus useful.
I don’t think you’re going to use a command carrier for the fighters.
Command carriers will be used for the boosts, booshes, and conduiting. Maybe for the ewar fighters. As such you will only see one in a fleet. They are not meant to be widely used.
