Containers that can "repackage" and "stack"

stutters are either due to caped out memory, due to lots of stuff on grid or a cpu that isn’t up to the job or an overtaxed gpu, lag can be caused at any point along the network, bad wifi, local disruptions like network traffic being rerouted due to maintenance on infrastructure or high traffic on the network, if you live in the west it could be caused by Russian and Chinese subs sabotaging oceanic network cables or DDOS attacks, the tranquility server will kick in tidi before it “lags” its a beast and is designed to handle a lot of “stress” and if the numbers spike in local the server node can be reinforced with more ram and CPU power. also deferent aspects of the game are handheld by specialized nodes like keeping track of skills and character info and movement of ships and drones flying around, also new eden is cut up in to separate nodes, no need for what’s happening in jita to interact with other areas of new eden, can a bunch of ■■■■ on grid affect server performance? yes but not to the extent that some trolls would have you believe. auto repack and stack cans would be very unlikely to have any noticeable influence if they became a thing, i also think I remember reading in a devblog maybe that having items in a stack is better for performance because a stack of items in a cargo hold is treated as a single item by the server, for example a freighter popping on grid and dropping loot would be more intensive if every piece of ammo or item were treated as individuals. that’s why when a ship is destroyed whole stacks of ammo drop or are destroyed, the drop chance is calculated for the stack not individual items in the stack , or why when you move a stack it moves the whole stack and not the induvial items in the stack, they are treated as individual entities exactly for the reason of limiting server stress.

All I know is:
• Selling anything sucks
• Creating a contract sucks
• Boarding a ship sucks
• Docking sucks
• Trying to keep your ship still sucks

So anything that potentially makes any of the above worse - not interested. Not that it’s a bad idea…

heh, i saw in a 2018/19 post you suggested a 1hr timer for the mobile depot… i can get behind that… at least the spam isn’t as bad now as it was in 2018 when ccp had to constantly clean up the spam.

those are most likely network related issue, not server issues, trust me I feel your pain. I play eve via my mobile network and when I’m playing during peak network times, docking and jumping gates can take up to 20-30 seconds sometimes, at night I can have 3 toons warping and splashing gates with little delay. also warping in on jita 4-4 grid can lag the ■■■■ outa my craptop i play on, the thing is a baked potato bro but yeah the performance of the game overall lately is not like what i remember back in 2011 when the server was not nearly as advanced as it is now and server count was almost double what it is now, things seemed way smoother back then. personally i think our issues are network related for the most part and not your wifi probably but more likely ISPs throttling connections due to increased load during peak times or nefarious individuals or groups chewing up bandwidth on the global network with but its my belief that the server can handle whatever the player base can throw at it.

I suspect it’s due to offloading most of these calls to the new server cluster (same one that handles SKINR). Guess I’m just a bit nostalgic for the old days when I could sell my loot in rapid succession and switch ships with wild abandon…

that’s quite possible, I don’t know the details of the inner working of tranquility but I have some what of a decent understand of networks but I’m sure someone could come in here and prove to us all I said something that was false. but I have also read in dev blogs that they use hamster to run the tranquility server, so it could be poor nutrition due to cutbacks of the budget for feeding them, an aging population of hamsters, or their fur building up in the heat exhaust fan, or general neglect of the hamsters at CCP, CCP has never actually shown us pictures of these supposed high powered hamsters probably due to not wanting us to see the sorry state they are kept in due to fears of PETA or some other animal right group getting involved and shutting the servers down. :hamster::zap::low_battery:

@CCP SHOW US THE HAMSTERS!

no, my argument is it wold be fun when hundreds, thousands of players are utilizing this new QoL all over EvE…considering how we know how EvE works…TiDi fest is sure to occur…everywhere.

i legit click on that screenshot thinking it was another video… any back on topic, auto pack and stack cans would be cool and a nice little QoL. any one who thinks they are dumb, unnecessary, or will cause lag is dumb unnecessary, and causes lag, change my mind? I want them sooner then Soon™

how quickly evryone forgets the Egg Station That CCP converted into a Citadel and so much stuff was in it…that the Server shut down for more than 12 hours…

We had an Egg station?

please provide some evidence or a dev blog about the server to back up your baseless claim, thanks.

yeah the perma player stations that used to be in null, they started as what we called eggs…you know b4 CCP turned them all into Faction Citadels

Oh right, gotcha.

before i even consider doing anything like that…

Do you know how/why TiDi works the way it does?

oh so you think maybe there was a reason beyond “too many items” couldn’t have possibly been an error in the code or something more technical than “too much junk in the loot trunk”? perhaps that’s why CCP swapped them?
