Deletion of characters by CCP

I would say it wont ever happen, but then they did the whole structure purge thing when they said they wouldn’t.
Nothing is guaranteed in this game.

Those are for offensive names if someone reports you for your name or if CCP has someone deemed it offensive. You ARE allowed to rename it to something unused ONCE afterwards but then, unless reported again I guess, you are stuck with that new name.

It has nothing to do with inactivity.

Thanks

Yeah happened to a character I had once. Many people just keep the “citizen” one forever and dont rename it but you are allowed to.

Continuing the discussion from Welcome to the Character Bazaar:

That is strange they don’t offer a cheap name change service. Many of the MMOs I have played offer the service, most of them cost less than $5 USD. I guess, it would be simple enough to biomass and rename, assuming your character doesn’t have millions of SP already. The character bazaar is just too much to pay out to change a poorly named character.

The original Guild Wars ( not that sequel ) I noticed added the ability to use a “nickname”. I am not sure why people can’t just use online services to make up original names. I use Behind the Name the most.

i used EVE online to make this characters name…

There is no guarantee that the name will be changed. Only character names that are deemed as inappropriate are eligible for a possible name change. Names will not be changed for any other reason.
  • b. These characters and their assets will be immediately deleted upon discovery and disciplinary action may be taken against the player’s account.

Yes, it appears you are correct about the name purge.

Actually afaik they have only done 1 purge of names and the criteria for that was that all of the names they reclaimed were on trial accounts that never converted to paying accounts iirc and were inactive for a certain period of time

Alright then I think this has been settled lol.

Whos simple minded? Its a space universe full of pilots from countless star systems - but none of them can share the same name in time nor in space.

I’m not sure what what the hate is for comic books or whatever, but the point you’re not getting is that the list is finite and unless you want Muppet005A for every character - they may do a clean up from time to time.

People like me who literally name themselves off a cartoon or name generator LOLOL With 0 originality

My steam handle is literally John Wick dude. :joy: :joy:

MILLIONS OF GAMERS LIKE ME. (Who are simple minded when it comes to names)

You missed his point dude.

While the list of remaining character names is indeed ‘finite’ due to the name length limit, the game isn’t anywhere near approaching that limit.

People can easily make new characters without resorting to letter and number codes in the name. The name generator has plenty of new names.

The amount of available names isn’t anywhere near ‘limited’ unless you insist in getting a certain dictionary word, but in that case you could simply open the dictionary at another page, pick another word and probably be fine.

There is no problem with limited available names and there won’t be for a very very long time.

As I stated above, John Rochard is not original as it is from another game in my collection “Rochard” is the story of an astro-miner. While mine is somewhat vague, others like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. are well known the world over. The game “Champions” is about a city of superheros and the publisher was already sued by Marvel once. They don’t allow known names from DC or Marvel universe comics. My wife played Champions years ago, she attempted to call her creation Scarlet Scarab and was rejected. She then found out the character name is a Marvel character in only 2 episodes of ALL those comic books. It appears in The Invaders #23 (December 1977) and Thor #326 (December 1982) but that is enough to make the name Marvel IP rights. She managed to get the name Burgundy Beetle instead. Meanwhile there are no less than 4 Wonder Woman, 12 Superman, and 15 Batman named characters on this game. Obviously the Icelandic company is immune or just don’t care.

With a little imagination anyone can make up an original name or clone a taken name. For example; one of the Wonder Woman names is WONDER W0MAN using the zero as the second “o”. Another method I don’t see used is Wonder Wornan or Superrnan using lowercase RN to make the letter “m”. There are tons of font tricks.

I don’t believe @Mr_Epeen is trying to insult anyone, just stating there are a lot of people who are not using their imagination and it shows when you have 8 Harry Potter variations.
