[Devblog] The Future of Force Projection Feedback Thread

I have seen there recent interactions, they’ve been the same as it’s ever been…

They just didn’t want to keep telling new acquaintances that they work for CCP and then explain no, not China.

You telling me the last 20+ years all their news and interactions were full of “US CCP DID THIS” “WE AT CCP” They are going hard on putting FC everywhere.

Call em fenris then damn. But new players will know them as fenris not ccp

I honestly think that Google forced them to change before they could invest, but they don’t want to say that. That’s just my theory though.

True. I mean would you want to be associated with the initials ccp if youre a global company?

Yeah but why FC thos every time someone talks about EVE related you have to double check now if they talk about the company or fleet commanders…

Which is why most of us just say Fenris

that is the result of what you want though.

Okay then. Fenris needs to communicate better. This change is clearly not about Force Projection or Stagnation of which they dont even talk about openly.

Lets summarise.
Fenris claims they aim to do this for these reasons:

  1. Small alliance friendly->To get smaller groups into 0.0, presumably by reducing the influence of larger coalitions so smaller ones can move into the vacuum.

  2. To make it harder to be as powerful as you are close to your Capital system.

  3. The hidden one they only talk about on meetings under NDA presumably. Stagnation.

Now what effect would these changes have?
It will be harder to go on the offense with the proposed changes. And while that might be true for power projection. Going 20 jumps instead of 10 will have no different outcome. We aim these changes at power blocks who will ERECT FOBs on the offence to support their attacks which then means no additional jumps for larger fleets before reaching the enemy from an FOB. The only strain will be on Logistics. (I dont know when was the last time any of you deployed. The last time i did we brought ships with capitals mostly) So not really affected there.
It will still be easy to defend with the proposed changes. The zoning does nothing with this. A timer is a timer you can gatejump 50000 members if you wish so with no restriction to meet that timer.

Adressing the point where smaller alliances take space from the blocks because of this. Im pretty sure 500 Kikimora will deal with any small group that tries to take a foothold in any Megahugegiga blocks space. They will not care about JB. Gates are fine. 1 system per 40 second or less will have enough projection to deal with anything domestic.

Stagnation? If anything this will reinforce stagnation. Currently there is 0 reason to go on the offense other than to get a fight and have fun. If getting to the fun becomes a chore and takes too much time then we are deincentivizing moving out from our own territory. If someone can explain to me how restricting movement helps with stagnation i would be really happy.

Now what i can tell will instead happen. And what most likely is the real cause of the changes.
The capacitor system will probably be set up in a way that a whole battleship fleet wont be able to jump in the outer zones. With local usage there will be ocassions when ships are left behing waiting for capacitor. Which then leads to a vulnerable state of said ships to roaming fleets. Cloacky camps. Restricting the use of outer JBs will lead to higher gate to gate traffic which leads to more target for cloacky campers and roaming hostiles.

I think i can safely say this. That FENRIS aimed this change with the mindset of creating more vulnerable targets to hostiles in a given blocks space. They already made Jump Bridges aids by bubbles stopping ships from using them. Made no sense whatsoever. Ships jump Gates jsut fine while bubbled.

I wouldnt even be mad if they jsut straight said the actual reason. But hiding behind fake ones and trying to implement something that will make the game worse is not my cup of tea.

So… Is this going to be Blackout 2.0 in terms of player protests? Another Monaclegate?

Probably not. I think we will protest a different way.

Like Glass your neighbours just to show Fenris this didnt do anything to power projection.

Find the nearest small alliance and make it disappear. Just do the opposite of what they think thiswill do.

so, basically begging for more nerfs? yeah that sounds like a really smart plan. I suppose you are in leadership of a very successful group bro…

You know why Blackout was a good thing. Because it showed the DEVs that we can stop playing the game if the game gets too tedious.

The less fun it becomes the less we play it.

The less we play the more fun we will have because they will need to make the game easier.

The premise that this game needs to be a tedious hard chore is what is wrong for a long long time now.

This is still a game. We all enjoy blowing ships up.
If my 15 minutes of fun needs 5 hours of ratting 2 hours of logistics and 1 hour of traveling.
Then i will go play something with instant gratification.

They keep pushing the limits of what the PLAYERS are willing to tolerate in terms of invested not fun compared to the FUN.

Now we all have to accept that the game evolved into what it is now by the years. They are working REALLY hard to make what we have now. Not fun.

Fun → Good
Not fun → Not good.

You know when i had the MOST fun. When rorquals Mined half the galaxy in a cycle and a battleship was 70m. Supers were going around 10b and Dreads for 1b. You know what we did.
HAD FUN ALL DAY PVP.

Sadly, the server and economy is not made for this fun. Rorquals seriously impaired the game and supers are oppressive for the server performance.

More limits to player freedom? That sounds exactly like what CCP would do in their helplessness and cluelessness.

I think the question begs to be asked: were we all having more fun 10, 5 or even 2 years ago? I know I was… (maybe I’m in the minority)

I can only speak for myself but when my invested time was not 7 hours for 15m of fun but closer to maybe 2. I definiately had more fun.

When i had 4-5 days where i did nothing but farm or haul with 0 minute of it being fun. Just so i can have fun at a later time that lasts maybe 15 minutes. If we deduce the traveling and looking for a fight part.

To me it always comes down to how much time i have to invest versus how much time i enjoy of what comes of that. The closer the 2 numbers the better the balance is.

Year after year now i feel like i need to invest more and more time for the same amount of fun i have. So i would definiately say the way EVE is going is rather sad.

Changes like these dont help that. You not only increase the time for me to get to the fun. But the time for everyon else involved to get to the fun. And while its subjective what ppl think fun is. Blowing each other up is fun.

Except for that guy in his oversized ab fit stabber with no guns thats stealing 12 milion in an empty system. F that guy.

The ACL changes seem like a bad idea. The rest seem okay.

that would be my #1 issue to fix. the game is no fun when you get tidi by just undocking a fleet. server performance deteriorated a lot since they removed bounties - and their reason given for the removal was ‘performance issues’ - laughable. base code needs reworking and probably no one at FC knows how to do it - I hope they can make that last statement wrong

Also the ridiculous amout of RAM the game needs in any bigger engagement needs to be looked at.

They keep trying and manage to expose ever more players/characters to their network and coding deficiencies.
