Well looking at zKill for marauder ganks, it does appear they they are more common the last couple of years than say 2018/2019. Further while in 2019 none of the killmails that it shows me were for marauders under 1.5b, there have been 20+ since the new year with “cheaper” fits.
So from some perspectives, it is a “worse ganking situation for marauder pilots than it was 6 years ago”. Gyo’s kill was a completely T2 fit. Though his attackers didn’t get concorded (or at least there’s no reports for them on zkill) so I question if they got themselves a suspect flag or such… Which if they did, it’s kinda entirely on them.
But suicide yeeting of Marauders is most certainly up from past years.
If you are flying a marauder though, certainly looks like you should GTFO from Forge, Citadel, and Metropolis.
If you slide them over to the victim side, you’ll see that the total number of losses in 2025 is almost 9 times higher.
Have you considered the possibility that, while there may be a larger number of ganks of marauders now than in 2019, the per-capita rate is actually far lower because marauders are VASTLY more common in modernity than in the ancient days of 2019? There isn’t as much overall activity by marauders-in-space in 2018 and 2019 combined as there is in 2025, and it’s not even close.
Yes, i also run 4’s all by my lonesome. As far as the ganking thing goes…..its never happened to me in 18 years of playing. The only time i lost ships in mission pockets was because i did dumb things to deserve it…my can getting flipped, or i just didnt know the rules of engagement way back when. It was far from anything being gank related.
On the now rare times I’m in game I still do L4s solo. I’ve semi-retired my Marauder (even though it was only T2 fitted) and gone back to using a T1 battleship. I’m in Minmatar space but stay out of Lanngisi and other hot spots. Even though I’ve had my missions invaded I’ve never been ganked.
