Dual monitor input lag/stuttering

Hey all, for the first time, I was super excited to connect my gaming laptop to an external monitor and run two screens. I run three clients in general and so the benefits of this are pretty obvious - even if it’s just to run Pathfinder on the second screen…

I have recently spent a lot of time in the Abyss and I have noticed that when I switch clients (using Eve-O-Preview), there is a 1-2 second almost slow motion animation after which point the client catches up. As I am sure you are aware, thsi is a major issue if you’re fighting for your life in the abyss!

I have tried to trawl the forums deep and, so far, I have:

  • turned off Game mode
  • disabled the Launcher hardware acceleration
  • introduced a frame limit for inactive windows (via Nvidia control panel)
  • introduced a frame limit as a multiple of the faster refresh rate (in my case the laptop is at 240hz and so I have set the frame limit at 120hz given that my monitor is at 144hz)

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the problem goes away if I use a single display but I am DESPERATE not to have to do this.

Thank you. o/

See if down setting to Direct X11 helps → Launcher Settings (cogwheel top right) → EVE Online.

Thank you @ISD_Drew - with such a high-end gaming laptop, I’m loathe to go to DX11. I saw another post suggesting that ISBOXER can solve this in a few clicks. Is that something you’d recommend?

They cant recommend 3rd party sites

Dx12 does have a history of not working right with EVE and going down to 11 usually solves issues

Generally would rule in/out DX12 being the issue first to troubleshoot. If stable with DX11, then can troubleshoot with tech GM’s/support if you’d like to try and get DX12 working. They are on the lookout for DX12 specific issues.

Have now tested and, unfortunately, I get the same issue even in DX11. I’m super bummed as my old rig (2014 build) may not make all the graphics look so pretty but at least there isn’t this weird lag issue. I would be most grateful of any genius ideas from you!

Dare I say it, I think that I might have found the fix.

Windows 11
Open Display Settings > Graphics > Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (switch off) & Variable refresh rate (switch off).

Pretty sure it’s the first tick box though… I seem to be running smoothly on DX12. Will report back if it doesn’t fix it. Oh rejoice…
