after a fresh installation I’m having an issue with EVE Online.
The launcher has downloaded the complete game (the option “Download full EVE client” is enabled).
The SharedCache folder is about 43 GB in size.
When I start the client, it starts downloading the ResFiles again into a different directory instead of using the existing files from the SharedCache. As a result, the data is stored twice.
Has anyone encountered this issue before and found a solution?
If I delete the data in Eve Online\SharedCache\ResFiles, the launcher wants to download the entire game again.
If I delete the data in Eve Online\ResFiles, the client also starts downloading everything again.
For now, I created a symbolic link so the client doesn’t download everything again, but this is only a workaround. The underlying issue is obviously not really solved this way.
I am not sure what you actually did to do a fresh installation. Did you not delete F:\Eve Online for the fresh installation? And to what did you manually set the game path in the installer?
In all my installations the path is only like this: F:\EVE Online
There is no SharedCache Folder anywhere on the system. If i recall correctly this was a thing a long time ago and they removed it and moved the files to the main path. So i can only assume that your previous installation was very old and now you or the launcher are confused about the file structure as seemingly you did in fact not do a “fresh installation” and tried to reuse existing folders.
To be sure that you don’t have unwanted files take up your drives space i would suggest you delete F:\EVE Online entirely as well as the installer and start a complete fresh installation to get this sorted.
No, I did not delete F:\EVE Online. After a fresh installation of Windows, I only reinstalled the EVE Launcher and copied over my profiles.
As shown in the screenshot, the game files path in the launcher is set to F:\EVE Online\SharedCache\, and the launcher does download the files into this directory.
However, the game client appears to ignore the path configured in the launcher.
I’ll test it with a clean install of EVE Online later.
Edit:
A clean install of EVE Online did the trick. Thank you.
