EVE Frontier

As Pearl Abyss wants to sell CCP can we agree it looks like EVE Frontier is another money sink for money CCP could have better used for EVE Online and even Pearl Abyss knows it and wants to cut losses or is there another narrative out there that might be valid?

any project that is not to make eve online better is a waste of money and time.

I think the investment in Frontier actually kept EVE on life support for the past 2 years. But the crypto has been exhausted and the operating loan will soon run out as well.

You keep going on as if Eve Online is CCPs only expense. This is false.

Eve Online is CCPs only revenue from an actual made product.

CCP has many other expenses, lets just name Vanguard as a single one as this is all that is needed to prove how you are wrong.

CCP has negative profit lets say -5m per quarter (which seems a bit higher than what has been quoted here and there but this is for a simple example).

Eve Online has revenue 15m* per quarter (saw someone say it had 67m in 2024 no idea how accurate but again example and we know there definitely is income).

Eve Online has expenses, x per quarter.

Vanguard has expenses y per quarter.

Which gives you:
CCP_overall = Eve_in - Eve_out - Vanguard
-5 = 15 - x - y

You are using this as proof that x is larger than 15, you can’t know that, unless you know y. And remember that there are many other side things than Vanguard.

While Eve is easily the MMO that requires the most server hardware per player (unless some of the others are really poorly implemented). there is no proof or even suggestion anywhere that I have seen (that isn’t just rambling ignoring all other expenses CCP has) , that Eve is not running positive.

EDIT
Changed words used to be more clear, revenue, profit.

    • EDIT, might subconsciously have picked 12 originally because I have seen the same numbers as mentioned below but I think that is 12m per year this example is per quarter, so changed it to 15 while changing words used anyway, to avoid confusion between this example revenue and the actual profit.

I think Oz said something in the ballpark of 65m income from EVE Online and about 12m of that is profit. CCP has a REALLY bad record with side projects, just look at Dust514 and World of Darkness. The real moneymaker for all those side projects is, was and in my opinion will always be, EVE Online.

It is not fair to put Dust514 in with any of the other projects (except maybe Valkyrie), Dust514 was made, released, played and had a solid loyal fanbase. That the Dust team (now Vanguard) completely let these people down is on the higher design (picking PS3, not making sure Dust2 was ready at PS3 end etc). But Dust5414 was real, it was a game, it had income. If it ever earned itself back I don’t know, but it at least reached the point where it had the chance.

Dust514 was also actually linked to Eve Online, we could shoot the bunnies with our guns.

There is no shortage of names to put on your failed track record list instead. Fx: World Of Darkness, EVE Gunjack, Project Legion, EVE Echoes, Project Nova. Apparently there was also something called Sparc.
