[Finished] Mass Test on Singularity - 24-27 July 2026

o7 capsuleers!

We are planning a mass test on Singularity beginning 24 July at 15:00 UTC, and running through the weekend to 27 July

What exactly is being tested?
As part of the updates to our codebase, we are deploying new Python 2.7 to EVE! You can read more about this process in an upcoming EVE Evolved Dev Blog.

Because this is a large project, we’ll be periodically opening up Singularity to players so we can test multiple systems in a situation that simulates a live environment. This is our first of those tests running through the weekend.

In terms of what you have to do to help us: it’s easy! Unlike more traditional mass tests, we’re not looking for a concentrated mass of pilots at any given time; just log into Singularity at your leisure and do stuff to things.

Be mindful that test server rules still apply. Punishments for flagrant infractions received on Singularity may extend to Tranquility, and can impact things like participation in the Alliance Tournament and other fun projects.

How to connect to Singularity for this test:

Change the server from Tranquility to Singularity in the bottom right corner of the launcher and log in as normal.
More detailed instructions are available here.

The test server was recently mirrored around 20 May.

Even if the 2 is a typo meaning to be a 3 that version is still woefully behind.

It begs the question, what is exactly is the ‘new’ part ?

Yeah, I hope that 2.7 is a typo, otherwise I wonder what CCP has been doing in the last 16 years

The ultimate goal is still to get moved over fully to python3, however, there are parts of the code that first need to be migrated up to 2.7. After that, they can more easily be upgraded to python3.

This is the first small part of many incremental changes we are making to flush out as many issues as we can before tackling larger, scarier changes.

I hope you have a successful test and more importantly, are able to finish updating the codebase…

I wished this was posted (or published/visible) sooner…

And of course, Singularity fails to accept connections after every downtime.

yep
SISI down

@CCP_Swift Now that Singularity is not a chore, but a tool for Mass tests, should you change the DT to fall on working hours, so that actions can be taken early when issues occur? You are losing data opportunities when the server is down.

Can you guys put on the launcher when you guys want us to test things on the test server? It’s already a day old.

SISI is back up

Does that mean the good old POS-code will soon be a thing of the past?

no because pos code is stored in floppy disks.

Hahaha… No.

Hey all! Our mass test for this session is now completed. Thanks everyone who showed up to test, we got some great data that has highlighted some errors that we need to work on before moving on to the next phase. We know that this test was announced with very little lead-time, but our primary goal was to have this build alive on an environment that’s TQ-like.

Singularity as a test server is a bit of hardware that is closest to Tranquility, so we’ll be setting a few of these up in the coming weeks and months as we continue on this project, and our goal is to give you all a bit more advanced notice when these happen.

To those asking about why Python 2.7 - FC Trashmob had some better insights. We’re also writing a devblog to talk about this process, what needs to be done, and what effects we might be able to see in the future.

Thanks again for everyone testing, it’s incredibly helpful!
