Gallentia Government is no longer a democracy

Democracy is weak in New Eden

If your “rights” can be dissolved with the stroke of a pen then you never had rights-- you had allowances. What the Gallente people are currently experiencing isn’t some sort of perverse undermining of their democratic traditions, its what happens when the mask of liberalism falls off the Garoun nationstate. Its the naked truth that their lofty concepts of liberty exist to justify foreign intervention and domination.

The State may not be immune from criticism, in fact there is a lot that I can critique it for that many of my more patriotic comrades have argued against me over. But one thing I can grant it credit for is that it spared us from all the cognitive dissonance and hysterics of this sort of political theater. Peoples sense of liberty and satisfaction doesn’t come from electoral rituals, it comes from their sense of security in their community and in how they make their livelihood. Between the workplace democracy of the State Workers Union and Gallente liberalism where an election is decided by wealthy campaign financing or suspended at will with no recourse, I know which one places more power into the hands of labor.

When the rights are abolished with a stroke of a pen. That is when the People show up and return those Rights. While showing those people just what a bad idea. It was to attempt at abolishing those Rights in the first place.

Yes, a democracy is a fragile thing. It is difficult to keep the lights on. It is not meant to be easy. While the Federation has much to answer for. But to become a mirror image of the Caldari state is not one of them.

As it is becoming increasingly clear that the President is making a career ending stupid move. I am of the mind that it is time for the People to show up and show her why this is a very bad idea. Unless I missed it. I have not heard any news about reinstating the elections.

It is time the Gallente elites to listen to the Gallente people. Primary out the warhawks and restore democracy!
Deplatform the vultures that fuel our war industry and prey on our civil liberties, our institutions, and worth!
Convince those who would duck their heads, to stand up, stand together and stand united!
And enough of the gossip, rumors, and complacent observer!

Stand united or fall divided! Gallente Democracy must be restored!

Let us hope that we get some word from the Gallente Government later this afternoon alongside the expected news broadcast from Upwell and AIR. Everyweek, everyday that we do not hear from our government representatives is another step towards Authoritarianism.

Hmm considering the past.

Is it the rise of the enemy that concerned the Jove?

Well it seems still no news. And most Gallente Capsuleers seem to not care (aside from those who have voiced their concern here and in the other post). They would rather chase after technology gotten on the backs of others than to stand up for Gallentean Freedom.

I hearby renounce my ties with the Gallente “Federation”. I shall support my fellow Thukker Tribesmen as they roam the stars.

I am not sure what I can do as a capsuleer to force the president to return the elections. There does not seem to be any indication on what is happening on the homeworld or elsewhere. Which is disturbing. I would ask you what can be done if anything?

The capsuleers who are pushing for a Minmatar/Gallente technology share should be adding stipulations that the Federation resumes it’s elections. Instead they just sign the petitions without any stipulations at all.

Earlier in this discussion, I listed examples of the democratic process continuing largely unaffected, with exceptions, during times of challenge and uncertainty.

It’s worth noting that today marks the second anniversary of another such example: the Intaki Assembly elections of YC105.

In the wake of the Federation Navy’s invasion of the system, a surge of anti-Federal sentiment arose which, in the extreme saw the Free Intaki Army attack Federal military installations and personnel directly, and more broadly saw the election of Chief Councillor of the Intaki Autonomists. The people spoke and made it clear that they believed that Intaki deserves better.

And while President Aguard appears to be content to ignore local sentiment in reaction to Federal overreach in Intaki, it seems that there is a growing disquiet with the current state of affairs, not only in Intaki, but across the Federation.

The Intaki Liberation Front is committed to lending whatever support we can to Chief Councillor Ivestara and the Intaki Assembly, joining our voices with theirs and others in calling for change.

While many are rightly concerned about the basic democratic principles that are supposed to underpin the Federation, the ILF’s priorities include the immediate demilitarisation of the Intaki system, and the restoration of the franchise system to empower the Assembly to appoint their chosen security contractor.

The ILF is also willing to support the Assembly in investing in it’s own domestic security capabilities, whether that be financially, or through the direct provision of equipment for the local law enforcement and military, both on the ground and in space.

As the people said two years ago, Intaki deserves better.

A Gallente here.. I have always held that the Intaki should have more freedom in deciding their own destiny.

President Augarde silence on bringing election back is disturbing. more than disturbing it is alarming. That she is focusing on military and wanting to push a Bill for no real reason other than “support the urgent need to reconfigure the economy of the Federation to meet the needs of increased security requirements and threats to our way of life.”

What threats? The drifters are not going to invade anytime soon. This fear mongering Bill is more of a threat to to any Federation members way of life. Than any fantasy invasion of drifters or an Intaki breaking away from the Federation. This is what a stupid career ending move looks like.

An obvious march, to what I can only presume, is to some sort of an authoritarian police state. If there is a call for capsuleers to orbit the home world to support the ejection of president Aguard. I will be there.

Well, I am definitely not a friend of democracy, and you can take my opinion as more or less neutral on whether Gallente are democratic or not.

I do fight to prevent them bringing democracy to us, but what they use is absolutely irrelevant to me. They want to disgrace themselves and make themselves weaker with Democracy - okay, fine, their choice and not my problem.

But they need to be at least consistent with it.

They want to suspend elections? Yea, fine, let them do that. Who cares. They simply stop being democratic - because democracy implies being ruled by people, or at least by some representative chosen by people. But what they’re going to get? Monarchy if the “further notice” never comes? How are they supposed to transfer power now?

They should actually make a statement how they intend to transfer power, but again, if they will have issue with it and go into civil war about who is going to rule them next, it’s only for our benefit.

But it’s crystal clear that if you postpone elections on indifinite term - you are automatically not democratic anymore. It’s just a power grab - there wasn’t people choice to suspend these elections, correct?

Same Empire lives without democracy for thousands of years, and nothing happens to them.

But anyway, if someone both suspends elections “until further notice” and still claims herself to be “democratic”, then she is simply an idiot.
