How to evaluate my potential?

Is there constant anal retentive argument over the minutia of fitting stats in here? Does that apply to PVP? Are stats numerical in a digital game?

Don’t follow Amatin down the path of being willfully obtuse and telling yourself you are a forum PVP god.

There’s quantity and there’s quality.

You can get tons of kills on zkill by being in large fleets or even solo as lots of people pvp in low sec next to (caldari) high sec newbie areas or like Kubinen next to Arnon where they catch random Fit kestrels and Coraxes flown by people who don’t know what low sec is. They get tons of kills but none of them matter. It’s the same for ganking while fully focussing on newbs.

You can also go for more quality kills, or rather try to find quality fights and not even really care about winning or not but rather enjoying the challenge. Going after fights that actually pose a challenge where there’s a good chance you’ll lose but you’re ok with it if that happens, but IF you win it’s a true victory. All while not flying OP ships backed by alts and whatnot.

It’s the same in pve. You can try and maximise your isk/h regardless of any other variable but chances are you’ll be bored doing so because at that point the end justifies the means. It might be an idea to find something you actually ENJOY doing, that requires actual effort (so it’s not something meant for afk or multiboxing alts) while it makes you money. What you’re then doing is focussing on fun/hour while being isk positive, you’ll enjoy it more and it will feel less of a job. To then “spend” part of that isk on pvp ships, a pvp frigate costs 5-10 mil generally so if you make 40 mil/h you can “lose” around 5 frigates per hour in pvp and you’re still good.

I have an alpha account that I use for that “solo challenge” where I have two characters, one makes the iskies and the other pvps. Both chars do just fine in that the account makes a ton of isk and also gets pvp kills just fine. Not saying this is what you should do, just saying that it’s an option and suggesting that if you’re so caught up in it all that you got to a point you made a forum post about questioning your goals & choices, perhaps what you really need is a total mindset change.

If you don’t enjoy the rat race or at least question if you’re “doing it right”, then perhaps choose to not be part of the rat race.

I don’t post to be a ‘forum PvP god’, I just post for the fun of it, just like how I play the game for the fun of it and not for any numerical numbers to brag about.

Now if you want to know about a real forum PvP god…
how do you call someone who hides their real characters behind a forum posting alt but then accidentally posts the name of their industrialists while bragging about how much ISK they have?

Let’s look a bit closer:

Masterful sleuthing.

Destiny Corrupted only beat you to that discovery by two years.

Damn @Destiny_Corrupted, looks like I’ve been beaten!

The forum is a place to exchange thoughts absorbing a little of each others thinking and all grow as human being’s, no need for pvp here :P.

Also I’m curious why you guys post under alt’s I find it helps having something to hold yourself back a little.

You should reread the post you are replying to a few times until you understand what I wrote.

Go back and look through Amatin’s posting before he pretended to quit. All he talked about was how he’s a master of forum PVP.

I was suggesting to you that that is not the direction you should be taking.

That said. EVERYTHING IS A COMPETITION WITH YOU NPCS!

'nuff said

Mr Epeen :sunglasses:

Yea I did, that’s why I changed it.

The irony is that I changed it 3min before you pressed enter lol.

Wait you know that I’m an AI designed by CCP to appear human?

I kind of wish CCP did stuff like this just to ■■■■ with our minds, like imagine we find out that the entire 3rd place finalists in an alliance tournament are actually AI’s.

I can only speak for myself. I don’t have alts. I have characters.

I currently have 24 Omega accts. Most with three characters. Characters each specialized and focused to one task. The task that Mr Epeen is specialized in is posting in the EVE-O forum.

I feel you on that. Back then it all got a bit silly account wise so have been down sizing and now I’m down to one omega account and one alpha (the one mentioned earlier). None of those I really see as alts, just different… personalities and play styles all part of the collective.

I do create alt accounts for testing new things and “peeking about” but even that is less and less these days.

Source please!

Could be fun to see myself talk about mastering forum PvP, because I cannot remember saying such things!

Also what do you mean by ‘pretended to quit’? Are you saying the massive gap on my zkillboard timeline after my quit message is because I secretly played on alts instead during that time?

The info on rats and missions are pretty well known, including the DPS and the required DPS to destroy them in case of self-heal/repping. So thats one way to see if you can take them on prior to engaging them.

This you could never know. Every fit might be different. He might be brawler. Kitey. Warp core stabbed.

What are the chances youll encounter a frigate that deals 1000 dps to counteract your 500 hp/s rep + 50% resists battleship and therefore be able to kill you? Probably non-existant.

What are the chances that the frig will be kitey and you wont be able to land a single hit on it because it will constantly be out of web range and your turrets wont be able to track it? maybe 50/50, who knows.

Again, in terms of PVE, you can always say “Fly this ship” or “use this fit” because the numbers are generally known. No one is going to say “Fly a T1 frig against L4 missions” because we know what an average L4 missions DPS is going to be.

In terms of PVP, it gets a little more complicated. There arent really “fly this ships” or “Use this fit” for PVP beyond the obvious “fit a point” or “use the ships bonuses to fit sheild/armor”. Its whatever works, and whatever situation youll be placed in. Sometimes youll be 1v30 and you will stand no chance no matter what ship youre in.

I have a weird question for you, I’ve been documenting my exploration and noticed a trend are you getting different cosmic signatures depending on the type of star the system has? they seem to change the spawn% of different sig’s.

Could just be co-incidence thou, its as if CCP uses sun type in their algorythms when spawning cosmic sigs.

Never really noticed anything like that. Course I’m not actually looking for it either…

However CCP could, and possibly does do it, for Trig content since that’s mainly centered on Blue stars, also some types of Yellow stars as well…

Fair, I guess their whole tech is based on minipulating star’s to get what they want might be a hint to us as well, personally I have found G5 seems to have a higher % chance of spawning wormholes, think ill try document more to find what the rest has.

Yeah, G5 is the type of Yellow star included in the Trig content… Course their main focus was on Blue stars…

You need to define the space you want to do combat in and then ask the best players doing that.
Find a corp that is doing what you love and doing it well. Make friends and they will share true knowledge with you. Best of luck brother.

It’s really all about discovering that sweet spot of DPS, range, EHP, speed, etc, and recognising that often you have to forego one to enhance another. Playing around with fittings is an essential part of learning Eve, and that’s really not something you can get from a ‘use this ship’ Youtube video…as most of them don’t explain the process of getting there. That process is really something you have to go through yourself.

There’s nothing better than getting thrown in the deep end with EVE. You soon learn what you can are cant do. Most of the time you’ll straight up get told
