How to get more people to play eve online?

Pay them

Meanwhile back in reality…

It hasn’t escaped people that CCP nerfed pvp to cater to casual mainstream players. And it hasn’t escaped people that it wasn’t long after that player activity started to decline. It hasn’t escaped people that CCP tried to remedy this by further catering to the casual players. And it hasn’t escaped people that doing so did not achieve the desired result. In fact the opposite happened. And it has continued to happen the whole time CCP have been nerfing wardecs, buffing freighter tanks, creating drifters, roaming npc’s, triglavians, moving with wasd, abyss space, burner missions, pve events aplenty, themepark npe, injectors, alphas (after 6 months) and so on and so on…

ALL in the name of retention of casual mainstream players and carebears. Aside from citadels and sov warfare, these players have had the last 5-6 years of eve development pretty much dedicated to them…and for what? So that they play a few hours (for free) and then quit?

Kezrai_Charzai is right about CCP compromising a quality product to chase money. He’s just wrong about which quality was compromised.

His point about pve players outnumbering pvp players is a bad one. Pvp players do pve as well and any metrics on such a subject were taken after the decline in activity started happening. After wardec nerfs. After crimewatch.

You could make the entire game hi-sec and give concord instant response time and Kezrai_Charzai would say 'look how few people pvp!

Yeah…That’s the problem. You folks wilfully ignore that players that are killed/pvp are sticking around longer…

And then are happy to brush over that these casual players aren’t going to stick with eve even if they aren’t attacked. 80% of players that don’t encounter any pvp at all ‘level up their raven and quit’ after a month. Half of players don’t log in at all. Wardecs were supposedly having a terrible effect on player retention, so CCP made it such that the majority of players can enjoy almost all the benefits of a corp and still avoid wardecs but right after that change activity actually went down. Etc etc.

Sure…it’s pvp that’s the problem.

#make hi-sec safer. #one more nerf.

What nerf to pvp did CCP implement that was catering to casual “mainstream” players?"

Actual PvP isn’t the problem, ganking and in some cases griefing and the fact some people have a tendency to over do things is more of an issue.

Ganking is not a problem. It’s part of EVE.

Griefing may be a problem, but it’s one that can be handled by CCP. You should be sending in player support tickets if you think someone is actively and intentionally griefing you.

Ganking is PvP, but thanks for demonstrating the problem very nicely.

I feel like i listed some already…

Oh look!

Add on crimewatch, awox nerfs, neutral rr nerfs, Hyper-dunking nerf…

Do you live under a rock?

Shooting other players in a pvp game is griefing…

Why don’t you play WOW instead. Then the average intelligence of both games will go up.

#bringin it back

No, in the past some players were using wardecs as a griefing tool, so it was bound to be changed.

So… you’re just mad that CCP passed a few nerfs related to GANKING and are taking that to say CCP is nerfing PVP overall for the “mainstream” player? How many “mainstream” players are being impacted by ganking nerfs?

You clearly don’t know what griefing is.

War Declarations are a risk that every player corporation has to face and they are under no circumstances considered harassment. Wars in general can be completely avoided by remaining in an NPC corporation.

It got changed because ccp (and the csm) thought it was having a bad effect on player retention. However, after thr changes player activity went down.

How can that be if wardecs were so bad? Where are all the players that we’re being pushed out by decs?

And wardecs.

Enough to cause retention issues.

Eve is a pvp sandbox game. It’s the core gameplay. The vast majority of it’s players are in hi-sec. What has happened to this core gameplay in this area? What has happened to player retention since?

If ccp had found another way to foster sandbox pvp in hi-sec then we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation. But they haven’t.

It was how they were being used, I myself was in a corp and an alliance that was constantly wardec’d to the point it broke up and yes there were a loss of some players. So the retention part was also an issue.

Says the guy who’s never been in a corp that’s been decced.

But anyways, where are all the players that were being pushed out by decs?

Decs got nerfed yes? Why isn’t the game activity growing again?

Could it be that the kind of players that left because of wardecs are going to quit anyways?

Look at yourself as an example. You think ganking is griefing…how long are you going to be here for when you think normal gameplay is bad?

Just shows what you know, played since 2005 and many times since although I do take breaks.

Hope you’re using an alt then.

Also, if you’ve been playing since 2005 like you claim, then you should know very well that Ganking is, and has always been accepted gameplay, even encouraged at times. It’s not griefing, though if you feel like it is, you’re always welcome to send in a support ticket and see what CCP thinks about it.

Well yeah, is there any other information to go on?

Unless you’re going to prove who your other characters are…

Btw these are genuine questions:

Why hasn’t retention improved now that the vast majority of hi-sec players can enjoy most features of a corp whilst dec immune?

Why, when decs cost 2mil isk and didn’t require owning a 500mil structure, did the games activity increase every year?

It was my last main before the latest one. It would actually make a good trader as it has all the necessary skills,

You’re not even looking on the right account.

I don’t really care what account. Would you mind providing the name of the Character then?

Well even then, anyone can find a character from 2005 and say ‘thats me!’…

Yeah, so we’ll ask him to confirm it by logging into that account + character and responding to the thread from that same character. Of course, he can always make up a story about how he lost the login credentials and stuff, but we can wait for him to submit a support ticket to CCP and get that sorted out. I know CCP is very helpful and can get that issue figured out really quickly having done it myself in the past.

Either that, or he’s just lying. :woman_shrugging:
