I was happy to see this post EVE-O Preview v8.0.0.0 - Labor of Love, announcing new maintainers (Dal Shooth and Devilen) for EVE-O Preview and mentioning macOS compatibility as a top priority.
Coincidentally, I’ve been working over the past few months on my own macOS alternative: Overview, and the recent activity on EVE-O has motivated me to release it for testing.
What is Overview?
- YouTube Demo Video
- A native macOS app for creating floating previews of your EVE clients (or any other windows)
- Designed for multi-boxing: monitor multiple clients and instantly switch between them
- Built natively for macOS, no Wine or other workarounds needed
Current Status:
- Alpha stage, with basic functionality
- Actively developing new features, with hotkey support first on my list
- Performance is suboptimal
- Not yet at feature parity with EVE-O Preview, but getting there!
System Requirements:
- macOS Sonoma (macOS 14) or later
- Apple Silicon Mac
Try it Out:
If you’re interested in trying it out or following the development, check out the GitHub repo. I’m always looking for feedback and feature requests!
I’ve also set up a Discord server for updates, discussions, and testing: Overview Discord Server
Acknowledgments:
A huge thank you to all the creators and maintainers of EVE-O Preview. Your work has been the inspiration for Overview and has greatly benefited the EVE community. A full list of contributors can be found on the GitHub readme.
To the current EVE-O Preview team: You have my full support in your efforts to bring EVE-O Preview to macOS. The EVE community can only benefit from having multiple options available. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
